Happy Maha Shivaratri!
I recently learned about this Indian holiday honoring the union   of all duality,
celebrated as the marriage of Shiva and Shakti, in her incarnation as  Parvati
(the daughter of the mountains).

R.R. Shakti writes that "Maha Shivaratri is a celebration of God/dess–
the essence of God in Nature. While Shakti creates the manifest experience of embodied consciousness, Shiva is said to be lying in stillness, deep in a dream. When he awakens the created universe dissolves into the unified experience of Pure Consciousness.
"The marriage of Shiva and Shakti may be celebrated as an awakened awareness of Pure Consciousness while you are still embodied in the human experience. This is Yoga: the realization of divinity on Earth and the sacredness in each and every moment. It is remembering the dream within the waking state and knowing the deep wisdom of your intrinsic wholeness.

The March New Moon invites you to honor your dreams. They hold the deep wisdom of your unconscious mind and Visionary Heart."

What a treat to have these talented yogis teaching this breath work class on Sunday, March 10, from 12 to 2 pm. Only $25 and bring a friend for free.

Casey shares about the workshop here:
"My inspiration for this workshop comes from an observation on what most western yoga classes focus on. I noticed that pranayama isn’t nearly covered enough and can bring wondrous calming effects on people’s day to day lives!
I
want this workshop to be the first of many to come because of my and Laura’s strong beliefs on breath work to help the community. A lot of people turn to coffee, alcohol, and prescription drugs for the wrong reasons. I would love to show there is another option that takes a little bit of discipline and that is the most taken for granted aspect of our lives!

The class portion will be the first hour with Laura discussing her expertise in the science behind proper breathing and the effects on the nervous system. Laura has degree in Kinesiology and works as a breath coach at a local PT facility. That’s the “science” aspect of the class.

Then I will come in with the ‘art’ aspect. I am a strong believer and practicing pranayama yogi. I will first go over the brief history of what pranayama is and the nadis of the nostrils, meditation, and proper seated positions. Then, we’ll have a 30-min segment on first the balancing effects of alternate nostril breathing and then kapulabati and breath retention.

The workshop will conclude with a wonderful shivasana with a crystal sound bowl! Most importantly we will guide students how to take the practice home and into their day to day lives."
