News Happenings Around Town

A monthly message from your Mayor and City Council
Mayor's Message

Good morning neighbors,

Our hometown Kansas City Chiefs are Back-to-Back Super Bowl Champions!! I know a lot of the Chiefs faithful were checking their pulses and heart rates during the game. It was a very exciting game, but we pulled it out in the end. The Kansas City Chiefs are the first team to win back-to-back Super Bowl titles in 19 years. That is an accomplishment all in its own.

Unfortunately, I want to take a moment to acknowledge the tragedy that occurred the week before last at the Chiefs victory rally. This act of violence has shaken our community and left us all in shock and grief. I want to express our deepest condolences to the families and friends of the victims. Lees Summit Mayor Pro team Beto Lopez (Lisa Lopez-Galvan’s brother) is in our thoughts following his family's devastating loss. Beto, you are not alone in your pain and sorrow. We stand with you, and we support you in this difficult time.

We also want to thank the first responders, the law enforcement officers, the medical staff, and the counselors who demonstrated exceptional professionalism and continue to work tirelessly to help the survivors and the community cope with this tragedy. We are grateful for their courage, professionalism, and compassion. A challenging moment like this reminds us how important it is that we pull together and recommit ourselves to building a strong community. Let us honor the memory of Lisa Lopez-Galvan by living up to our values and our aspirations.

In this issue, the Chamber Leadership class paid me a visit during a City Council Meeting; after a short hiatus, Big Biscuit is back; we welcome another new business to our great city; I attended the Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast at Adams Pointe Conference Center; the Fieldhouse has two events coming up soon that I know everyone will enjoy; and a well-deserved promotion for one of our employees. Finally, don't forget to also check out the Video Spotlight of Queen B Boutiques.

My16th and final State of the City Address will be on March 21 at the Adams Pointe Conference Center beginning at 11:30 in the morning. I hope to see you there!
