TASK Collection Update

We extend a heartfelt thank you to our wonderful residents and dedicated staff for your generous donations to the Trenton Area Soup Kitchen. Your kindness and compassion are making a real difference in the lives of those who need it most. In total, we collected:

63 adult hygiene bags

25 children hygiene bags

26 feminine care bags

2 bags of non-perishable food items

All donations were delivered by staff to the Trenton Area Soup Kitchen on Monday, March 9th.

Officer Kallie Kohnow lead the C Squad and LMTPD colleagues to collect and assemble dozens of hygiene bags for adults and children.

All donations before the Township team dropped them off at the Trenton Area Soup Kitchen.

Lower Makefield Recycle Yard Schedule

2026 Recycle Yard Dates

The Lower Makefield Township Department of Public Works will host a series of yard waste collection events for residents throughout 2026. All collections will take place between 7 am and 3 pm behind the Public Works garage at 1100 Edgewood Road.

Human Relations Commission -Student Member Vacancy

Lower Makefield Township Seeks Student Member for Human Relations Commission

Lower Makefield Township is currently seeking a student member to serve on the Township’s Human Relations Commission for a one-year term.

This position provides an opportunity for a local high school student to become involved in local government and community initiatives while gaining valuable civic experience. The student member serves as a non-voting member of the Commission and is welcome to attend and participate in all meetings.

Eligibility requirements include:

* Must be between 15–18 years old

* Must be a resident of Lower Makefield Township

* Must be enrolled in and actively attending an accredited high school program

* Must be a freshman, sophomore, or junior in high school

Student members may be reappointed to additional one-year terms on the Commission assuming all other eligibility requirements are met.

Students who are interested in learning more about local government, community engagement, and promoting inclusivity in the Township are encouraged to apply. Please send a letter of interest and resume to admin@lmt.org.

Sunshine Week - Your Right to Know

The Office of Open Records was created by the Right-to-Know Law (RTKL) signed on February 14, 2008. This law fundamentally changed access to government records in Pennsylvania by establishing a presumption that all records are public and available to citizens. In Pennsylvania, the primary mission of the Office of Open Records is the vital exchange of transparent information, built on the foundation that information must be communicated between governments and the public they serve.

Pennsylvania’s Right-to-Know Law gives the public the right to request and access certain records from state and local government agencies. The law is intended to promote transparency by allowing residents to see how government decisions are made and how public funds are used, with some exceptions for records that must remain confidential.

While The Office of Open Records (OOR) does not enforce the Sunshine Act, The Pennsylvania Sunshine Act, 65 Pa.C.S subsection 701-716 requires agencies to deliberate and take official action on agency business in an open and public meeting. It requires that meetings have prior notice, and that the public can attend, participate, and comment before an agency takes that official action.

Sunshine Week, beginning on Sunday, March 15, 2026, is a nonpartisan collaboration among groups in the journalism, civic, education, government and private sectors that shines a light on the importance of public records and open government.

At any time, anyone is able to request open records from the Township Administration Building (permits, bid documents, site plans etc.) Below is a link to the Township's online permitting portal where you can access a Right-to-Know form.

Friends of Five Mile Woods Volunteer Dates

Do you love nature and being outdoors?

Are you looking for an opportunity to volunteer and give back to your community?

The Friends of Five Mile Woods volunteer workdays may be a perfect fit for you!

On the second Saturday of each month from March to November, join a group of volunteers at the Five Mile Woods Preserve office at 1305 Big Oak Road. Activities include trail and grounds maintenance, litter clean up, wildflower meadow maintenance and new boardwalk construction or repair.

All ages are welcome and no experience is necessary! Tools and instructions will be provided. Please dress for the weather and wear sturdy footwear.

Bird of the Month

The Northern Flicker

The March Bird of the Month is the Northern Flicker! Unlike most woodpeckers, Northern Flickers spend most of their time on the ground, hunting ants and beetles. They can eat thousands of ants in a single day, using a long, barbed, sticky tongue. Their slightly curved bill is adapted for digging in soil instead of drilling wood.

In flight, they flash a bright white rump patch and colorful wing linings (yellow or red depending on the form). The two main types are yellow-shafted and red-shafted Northern Flickers, which often interbreed where their ranges meet. Flickers often reuse tree cavities and their old nest holes become homes for other birds and wildlife.

Their loud “wicka-wicka-wicka” call is easier to hear than their drumming.

Males perform aerial courtship displays to defend territory and attract mates.

Some flickers migrate, while others stay year-round depending on location and food supply. The Northern Flicker is a truly unique woodpecker you’re just as likely to spot on your lawn as in a tree

Women's History Month

March is recognized nationwide as Women’s History Month, a time to acknowledge the contributions, achievements, and leadership of women throughout history and within our communities. From public service and education to business, healthcare, and civic engagement, women have played a vital role in shaping our municipality and strengthening our community. Locally, women serve our Township in many capacities, guiding policy, delivering essential services, and strengthening connections across our community. We sincerely thank the dedicated women of Lower Makefield Township who make this community a wonderful place to live, work and play!

Environmental Advisory Council Lecture Series

Join the Environmental Advisory Council when they host a lecture on the impacts of data centers. This event will take place on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at 10 am in the Township building (1100 Edgewood Road) Admission is free!
