March 2023 Eureka Chamber Membership News
A MESSAGE FROM YOUR CEO

"I’m a Chamber Member because _______"
This is not my first Chamber rodeo. Prior to moving to Humboldt four years ago, I served for several years as a senior team member at the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce. While at the LA Chamber, I can’t tell you how many people I talked with about how they can make the most of their Chamber membership. The same is every bit as true here in Humboldt.

You pay dues each year to renew your membership. And sometimes you may ask yourself, “Why am I a member of the Greater Eureka Chamber?” I get it. You want to be sure your investment is paying dividends.

This is exactly why I, and our Chamber team, are deeply committed to more fully understanding your needs and offering programs that best support our members.

In addition to the many conversations I have each month with our Chamber members, we want to be sure the voices of ALL our members are heard. So, we will be sending out a poll to all members in the coming weeks to ask you about your priorities.

NOTE: This poll will go out to your business’s “member of record”, which is our primary contact at your business. Please be sure (a) we have the correct “member of record” for your company, and (b) that person is on the lookout for the poll we will be sending.

Our Board will be meeting in April to draft a new strategic plan for our work, and want to be sure your voice is heard as we look at what we will accomplish in the coming years.

We want to be sure you can fill in that blank with clarity and confidence when you say, “I’m a Chamber member because _______!”

May you be well.
CHAMBER UPDATES
Conversations with Leaders:
The Future of Cannabis
in Humboldt County
It's no secret that the cannabis industry has been a major economic driver for our region for decades. With legalization, hundreds of farmers came out of the shadows to establish themselves as legal businesses with hope of a brighter future for the industry.

However, legalization has brought a host of significant challenges to the cannabis industry, with very real, very direct impacts on our overall economy.

Join us for a candid conversation with local leaders in the cannabis industry about the current reality and what they expect for the years ahead.

After eleven years of owning, managing and operating the business, founders and owners Fred and Jackie Moore have entered into an agreement to sell the LLC and its downtown Eureka distillery to experienced local brewers David and Tera Cook. The Cooks bring 37 combined years of experience in the brewing industry to their new roles at the distillery.
Corcoran Becomes Iconic
Corcoran has announced the launch of its newest affiliate, Corcoran Icon Properties. Based in Northern California, the new company comprises 24 offices and over 900 sales associates and staff who were formerly with well-known brands, including Zephyr Real Estate, Terra Firma Global Partners, MikkiMoves Real Estate, Barry Ward Realty, Caldecott Properties, Discovery Bay Properties, Thrive Real Estate, and Highland Partners.

With a footprint that stretches across six markets, including the greater San Francisco Bay Area, Humboldt County, and Calaveras County in California’s Gold Country, sales associates will continue to represent clients in some of the most discerning communities in the region.
Employees May Use Sick/Family Leaves for Designated Person
"My employee requested time off to care for her neighbor who just had surgery. Do I have to grant her request?"

Although a neighbor previously would have been excluded as a qualifying “family member” for whom an employee could take leave under California’s Paid Sick Leave (PSL) law, the law was expanded recently so that an employee can use their PSL time in this type of scenario.
