Donate A Bike and Change A Life March 2025

Better Together - Blue Hannon, Executive Director

On Thursday February 27th Wheels for Workers was pleased to co-sponsor an event with Clean Mobility Buffalo, East Side Bike Club, GoBike Buffalo and Niagara River Greenway at the Delavan-Grider Community Community Center. In celebration of Black History Month, participants were able to give their input on the work being done to make Kensington Avenue and nearby residential streets safer for everyone walking, rolling or biking. There was also a youth bike giveaway and information about bike safety. Each participating organization brought their own unique talents to this event and together we pulled off an event that neither of us could do alone.

One of the core principles of Wheels for Workers 716 mission is collaboration. Just like you need all components of your bike to be functioning and working together, we believe we can't succeed in our work without our partners. We continue to expand the number of our collaborators so we can bring bicycles to those in need.

If your organization is interested in working with us, please don't hesitate to contact us.

I am so proud of our all-volunteer organization! With so much going on in the world, it may difficult to know how to help. I know that I can get up everyday and fix a bike and help one of my neighbors. I encourage you to join us and volunteer for a great cause!

Refugee Organization Partners still need our Help

The response to the Refugee Partnership Crisis Response Fund has been outstanding but they still can us your help. Recently resettled individuals and families in our community are at risk. Arriving as refugees, they are now at risk due to the sudden end of federal funding. There are 731 refugees in Western New York who have arrived in the last 90 days. Now it is up to us as a community to deliver on the promise America made to those recently arrived and help to make Western New York their new home.

Every dollar raised for this cause is integral to supporting refugee resettlement in our community.

Why I Volunteer!

Name: John Aman

How did you get involved?

I retired from a long career as an attorney in June of 2023. At that time, I began looking for a meaningful volunteer work. I attended a workshop at Journeys End and Wheels for Workers was mentioned. I arranged to attend a Wheels for Worker gathering soon after and was immediately welcomed into

the Wheels family.

What do you like most out of volunteering?

Wheels for workers fills my volunteering aspirations on a number of levels. First, I am able in a small way to help with transportation needs of our Western New York residents and those from other countries relocating here. Secondly, Wheels is a wonderful group of thoughtful, compassionate, skilled and interesting individuals. It is indeed a second family. Thirdly, by rescuing and reusing bicycles. I do a small part in keeping things out of landfills. I feel strongly about this environmental focus. Finally, I am learning new skills!

What's One Thing People probably don't know about You?

I hope I’m pretty much an open book and people know my interests. I have been married 45 years to my wife, Kathy, and have five grandchildren. I like to read (I always carry a book with me), exercise (I completed one marathon and now enjoy running 5Ks), and do jigsaw puzzles. And of course, I like to bike!

Please share this newsletter with others so they can see the work we are doing in the community. Our goal is to get as many donated bikes fixed up and out into the community to those who need them.
