For those of you not familiar with The Big Give, it is held annually for one day only to give individuals in San Antonio and across south Texas an opportunity to go online and donate to one or more of over 500 nonprofit organizations.  Read more here >>

Reading Buddy Tip

Reading Buddy Seminar - Focus Areas for Transitional Readers

Our recent Reading Buddy seminar gave Buddies strategies for helping transitional readers. These are students who are "nearly fluent" readers, kids who have begun to adopt reading behaviors that will lead them toward more advanced skills, but who might need a little help navigating this transition.  See the full tip here >>

Volunteer Spotlight- Amando Estrada

Our Reading Buddy of the month for March is Amando Estrada. This is Amando's fourth year serving as a SAYL Reading Buddy. He found out about the program through an article in the Express-News. During his first three years with the program he worked with students at Crockett Elementary in SAISD. This year he has been matched with students at J.T. Brackenridge, also in SAISD.  Read more here >>
School Spotlight - Rogers Academy

Hats off to our School Spotlight, Rogers Academy in SAISD! Rogers has been an amazing school partner for many years. They continue to partner with the Reading Buddy Program as they want to allow their students the opportunity to have social awareness as well as literacy engagement to support their academic goals.
Donor Spotlight

Getting support from those in our community means so much to the SAYL Reading Buddy Program and CPS Energy exemplifies that support through their recent donation of $20,000. This generous donation allows San Antonio Youth Literacy to continue to deliver its
program to those children struggling to read on grade level. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!
