Volume VIII, 2022

By Mary B. C. Slade

The stormy March has come again,—

March! March! March!

And rattling down the window pane,—

March! March! March!

Come rushing torrents of the rain,—

March! March! March!

But o’er my head my hat I swing,

And shout hurrah! like anything! Because it is the first of Spring,— March! March! March!

Dear Friends

Exciting news, the Routledge Compnaion to Jazz and Gender has been nominated for best jazz book of 2022 by the Jazz Journalist Association - what an honor! It's similar to a Grammy nomination, there are many other amazing books that the award should go to but being in the nomination pool is really special.

Everyone is invited to our concert in honor of International Women's Day on March 8, 7pm CET, 1pm EST live and streamed featuring renowned artists Jasna Jovicevic, Gina Schwarz, Judith Schwarz, Chanda Rule, Monika Herzig and students from Jam Music Lab with a program of originals and selections from the Berklee publication New Standards. Follow this link and register to tune in. - see you Wednesday!

Are you ready for Jazz Girls Days 2023? Calling all Girls ages 12-18 to sign up now for April 11 at Noblesville High School/ Indiana. No knowledge of jazz required, just bring your instruments and of course vocalists are also welcome. Great mentors lead through an afternoon of working in combos culminating in a public performance - a positive and fun experience for all and it's free! Spread the word to students, colleagues, and friends.

Tickets are on sale for most of our April release concerts, follow the links in the listings below. Let's celebrate Janiece's legacy and Joni's timeless messages together. The official CD release date is March 31, singles already available on streaming services are Help Me, Don't Interrupt the Sorrow, River, and Sweet Bird. Stream, like, download, and share often. And even better, order a physical copy directly here that includes the liner notes and art work with Janiece smiling at you from the shelf (be patient the website loads a bit slow).

Thanks for reading all these exciting updates - can't wait to hear yours and see you soon.
