I'm happy to report good news for open space, farmland and historic preservation funding in New Jersey thanks to numerous state legislators who supported the issue. We are on our way to increased funding through the Garden State Preservation Trust Fund implementation bill that recently sailed smoothly through the Senate Environmental Committee and will now continue the tour for approval through various other committees in both houses before forwarding to the governor for his signature. Stay tuned.

New Jersey horse farms have reason to be hopeful thanks to a recently approved bill in the NJ Assembly that will bring $100 million in purse subsidies over a five year period to prop up the struggling NJ Thoroughbred and Standardbred racing industry. Governor Murphy is expected to sign the bill into law. Thanks to Senator Vin Gopal for sponsoring the bill that we hope will help support our many Monmouth County horse farms.

Sincerely,

William D. Kastning, AICP
Executive Director

P.S. Good news for Federal preservation funding too! The Land and Water Conservation Fund just made a successful journey through the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives. Read more by clicking here.
