COVID-19 Updates
Mask mandates, revocation of Directive #6, and school guidance
Mask mandates were lifted in most public spaces in Ontario on March 21, 2022. This change does not apply to high-risk settings including hospitals, long-term care and other health care settings.

Occupational therapists working in private practice and community settings should continue to follow the Ministry of Health's COVID-19 Guidance: Primary Care Providers in a Community Setting and use clinical and professional judgement (for example, carrying out point of care risk assessments, adapting services to minimize risks to clients and self, and following infection prevention and control practices).

Ontario's Chief Medical Officer of Health also revoked Directive #6 regarding COVID-19 vaccination and testing policies in high-risk health care settings, including public hospitals and home and community care settings.

The College's Q&As on "Occupational Therapy and School Guidance" have been updated to address recent inquiries to the Practice team. You can see these updates on our dedicated COVID-19 page under the "Questions and Answers for OTs" section. Scroll down to read the latest Q & A on masking in schools.
Please continue to check the College and Ministry of Health websites for the latest updates.

Cases, Questions & Answers
Case of the Month
Providing virtual service involving other jurisdictions
Rosella works on a family health team and provided virtual occupational therapy service to her clients when in-person service was deemed unsafe during the pandemic. Over time, more clients are requesting ongoing virtual services.

Rosella is thinking about travelling outside the country and wondering if she can continue to provide virtual services while she is residing outside of Ontario?
Virtual Service Q&As
Providing virtual services outside of Ontario
In my job, clients can be located anywhere across Canada and sometimes in other countries. Can I provide virtual services to them?

Can I do virtual visits with clients in Ontario if I am staying in another province or country?
Masking Q&A
Mask mandate lifting in schools
Question: I am an occupational therapist working in school health. With the masking mandate being lifted in schools, do I still need to wear a mask when providing service?
Obligations Q&A
Failing to update your information with the College
Question: What are the consequences of not updating my information with the College?

We appreciate your feedback and welcome comments at any time.
Last month we asked you: If I renew my professional liability insurance policy or change providers, I need to...

We received 251 responses! The top two responses were:

49.4% "Update my insurance information in my College profile within 30 days."

48.2% "Update my insurance information in my College profile immediately."

That's right! When there is a change in your professional liability insurance coverage (including insurer name, start date, expiry date and certificate/policy number), you must update your information online within 30 days of the change occurring.
