Albuquerque Apparel Center News
AAC Teams with WTAMU for Apparel Study
The Albuquerque Apparel Center and New Mexico Fashion Week Albuquerque are excited to partner with researchers at West Texas A&M University. The study will help the AAC to better understand clothing buying habits and attitudes of consumers, a crucial part of the AAC's mission to build a garment industry in New Mexico. With the recent trend of apparel manufacturing returning to the US, the AAC hopes to "draw some conclusions about current attitudes towards imported versus American-made clothing,", says Executive Director Melissa Lea Beasley. The study will survey 500 or more people from around the US, and preliminary findings will be available at NMFWQ2015. Visit our News Page for the full press release.
AAC Looks to the Future as 2nd Annual Fashion Week Nears
With three weeks until the event and tickets selling fast online, the AAC is thrilled by the amount of support and excitement the state is showing for NMFWQ2015.  Executive Director Melissa Lea Beasley says, "It is so encouraging to see how the state has stepped up and helped make this event a success already."   Beasley explains that establishing an industry-recognized fashion week is an important step in creating a full-fledged garment industry for the state. "My vision is to bring our state together, and put us on the map as a destination for all things fashion: design, supplies, manufacturing, and  entrepreneurship. This industry has endless possibilities for job growth and creativity; they're to be tapped!"  To find out what services the AAC provides, and read about Beasley's mission for the fashion inustry in New Mexico, please visit the AAC website.
Model Camp March 8th: Runway Lessons
3rd and Final Model Camp for NMFWQ2015 Provides Lecture and Practice of Runway Walk for 2015 Model Hopefuls
At the final Model Camp for New Mexico Fashion Week Albuquerque 2015, models from across the state joined together for a class about modeling etiquette and the importance of posture and strength, and then attended group and individualized
runway training. The class, attended by beginning, intermediate, and professional models, was lead by the AAC Director of Events Elnora J Keller with the help of Aveda Institute New Mexico. Keller was joined by NMFWQ Executive Director Melissa Lea Beasley and Director of Photography Allen Winston, with numerous other volunteers.

This year, the AAC has begun what will be a statewide database of models. Directly following the class, photos were taken of models new to NMFWQ; the photos will be used to cast models for NMFWQ2015, as well as entered into the AAC model database, for fashion shows and photoshoots throughout the year. With attendance around 70 models at each of the three camps held this year, the database already includes around 200 models. "We trust that the database will continue to grow after this year's event. We will be continuing the Model Camps, with smaller class sizes and more specific subjects at all skill levels, following NMFWQ2015. There are already so many great professional models in New Mexico; with Aveda Institute NM, the AAC will help educate the beginning and intermediate models to grow them into a force of professional models for our state," says Beasley.

Here's a little appreciation for one of the NMFWQ team members!
Elnora J Keller
"I have worked on projects with Elnora in the past, and I'm excited to see where her help takes us. She has a passion for our industry, good organizational skills, and above all, a great business sense," says Executive Director Melissa Lea Beasley. Though Elnora has helped here and there with NMFWQ2015 preparations in the past months, she has recently stepped up in a big way!
