MARCH NEWS
From Ann Vaughn, President

Happy Women's History Month and Happy Spring! Themes of rebirth and renewal in spring are familiar to us all. That's one of the reasons I'm so glad our grant review process happens in the spring. Local nonprofits have fresh, energetic visions for how to bring change to our region, and we are excited to help nurture that work.

Unfortunately — and especially in recent years — a change in season also comes with fear and trepidation. Is another wave of the pandemic around the corner? What kind of escalation in violence and suffering can we expect from world events? What is going to be the next bleak report about the environment, the economy, or social injustice?

That's why I take heart in the Rosa Parks quote below. Fear and anxiety might be inevitable, but our resolve may be the antidote. I find that one of our greatest challenges these days is not being paralyzed by our fear. International, domestic, and local challenges are all overwhelming. But I am so inspired by the sense of purpose among our members and the nonprofits that are doing good work every single day.

So let's get busy and stay busy. Let's make up our minds to do the best we can do, to let each tiny bit of progress make us less fearful and more resolute. And, let's celebrate the positive impact of our community.

We hope to see you at the Impact100 DC gathering for all members next month (details below).

Best,
Ann
