Part Time Driver Needed

SSKP seeks to hire a part-time driver to complement our team. Our mission to ensure neighbors have access to food is made possible by collaborative efforts including the vital work of our drivers.

New SSKP Community Meal Opens in Madison

The First Congregational Church of Madison (FCC) is hosting a new SSKP Community Meal at Angela Hubley Hall in the FCC Church House at 26 Meeting House Lane in Madison. All are welcome to come for a breakfast meal at no cost. Instead of serving just those with a financial need, FCC Senior Minister Sarah Vetter said the kitchen is also eager to welcome people who may be lonely and are looking for human contact or folks who just want to stop by for a great breakfast. Breakfast will be served from 9am to 10am each Saturday.

"We are seeking to broaden the invitation to welcome all people who may want to come and share a meal," said Rev. Vetter. "Given the epidemic of loneliness, and rising costs of living, there are many reasons why someone may benefit from a Community Meal. It is our mission to 'feed the hungry.' People are hungry for many things; food and friendship are big ones."

Ross Tutschulte, Moderator of the FCC Board, added that Board members are enthusiastic and supportive. "To be able to use the church's remodeled kitchen to provide the shoreline community with nourishing breakfasts as well as a place for companionship and making new friends is truly a reward to our church and its investment," Ross said.

Rev. Vetter added that the renovations were done with the intention to help the community as well as the congregation. "What better use than to provide a Community Meal for anyone who could use it –for whatever reason."

These Spring Appeal funds arrive annually at a time when need is high, and income is generally low. With the high cost of food and continued high need in our region, how might we “spring forward” with additional hope?

Community Foundation of Middlesex County Supports SSKP

SSKP is pleased to announce it has received a $5,000 grant from the Community Foundation of Middlesex County, made possible by the generosity of the River View Cemetery Fund and the Sherry and Herb Clark Family Fund.

This generous grant will purchase fresh and nonperishable food to be shared with those in need on the shoreline through our weekly food pantries in Clinton, Old Saybrook, and Westbrook. We are so thankful for the continued support of the CFMC!

Join the Firehouse Food Drive - Sat. April 12th

Save the Date! Local fire departments will host the Annual Firehouse Food Drive on April 12th from 9am – 1pm to collect non-perishable food for SSKP.

Many local shoreline fire departments will be collecting non-perishable food for SSKP during the April 12th food drive, which is one of the organization's largest food drives of the year. Shoreline fire departments already committed to participate include Old Saybrook, Essex, Westbrook, Chester, Clinton, Deep River, and North Madison. Watch for announcements as other fire departments join in this special food drive.

Fire department teams will be collecting donations at their firehouses as well as local grocery stores including Robert’s Food Center in North Madison; Stop & Shop in Old Saybrook and Clinton; Big Y in Old Saybrook and Clinton; ShopRite in Clinton; and Walmart in Old Saybrook. In addition, after March 15th, non-perishable food donations can be brought to Mirsina’s Restaurant in Old Saybrook; the Parthenon Diner in Old Saybrook; Sal's Pizza & Pasta in Old Saybrook; and Scotch Plains Tavern in Essex as well as the Essex Savings Bank in Old Saybrook and Staples in Old Saybrook. Please note that all these additional locations are accepting non-perishable food donations during their regular business hours through Saturday, April 12th.

Local TV and radio personalities will also participate, including Gil Simmons, Chief Meteorologist for NEWS 8 WTNH, and talk-show host Lee Elci, the morning personality on his popular Lee Elci Show on 94.9 FM News Now-Stimulating Talk. Both Simmons and Elci will be joining firefighters and volunteers collecting food items at OSFD Headquarters at 310 Main Street in Old Saybrook.
