Calgary pediatric sleep consultant, Jane Anderson of Counting Sheep, has some important tips on how to shift your child's sleep pattern in preparation for Daylight Savings Time on March 12, when we all lose 1 hour of sleep!
Unfortunately, for children with LD or ADHD, losing an hour of sleep will have far greater impacts than when other children have to do without (and it's not great for adults, either). Sound sleep helps to regulate emotions, consolidate learning and mentally prepare us for the next day's challenges. But for children with disabilities, they are often already at their limit for daily challenges, so proper sleep is critical.
This post was written more with babies in mind, but the tips apply equally as well to children.

How an executive accepted her differences and increased her belonging
"As I rose in my HR career, I was encouraged to cloak my dyslexia to improve my promotion chances. Having to hide how I work and process information was stressful, required a lot of mental energy to fit in...I couldn’t be myself. And I certainly didn’t feel like I belonged. Belonging is a key to mental health. When people can’t be themselves, they waste time, energy, and effort trying to blend in." Find out what changed!
