Message from ESFL Executive Director
Hello Everyone!
As we close out the last few weeks of March, we’re excited to continue our journey of growth, learning, and empowerment at Enhancing Skills for Life. This month brings new opportunities to build confidence, try a new activity, and celebrate the progress of our super cool community. Whether you’re developing independence, exploring new goals, or supporting someone on their path, we’re here to assist however we can every step of the way.
One of our community members we have been fortunate to get to know over the last year or so, MJ Dillard, has recently joined ESFL as a volunteer. Please see below to learn a little bit more about MJ and her thoughts on what she wishes she knew sooner as a quadruple amputee.

New Here? This Section is for You!
Are you new to the Limb Difference/Amputee community?
Hi, I am Mary Jane "MJ" Dillard and when I became a quad amputee, I realized losing limbs reshapes far more than a body — it rewires the entire map of daily life. In the early days of my new reality as a quad amputee, I found myself caught between two worlds: the one I used to know and the one I hadn’t yet learned to navigate. What surprised me most wasn’t the difficulty — it was the silence. No handbook. No clear path. Just scattered lifelines waiting to be found. I would like to break that silence for those new to this environment
Each month, I’ll spotlight all the things ESFL has to offer, organizations, people, tools, and truths I discover along the way. ESFL offers resources that don’t just help you survive, but help you regain momentum, identity, and community. If you’re newly amputated, born with limb difference, supporting someone who is, or simply curious about the realities behind the prosthetics and courage-filled headlines, you’re in the right place.
Let’s pull back the curtain together — and make sure no one has to rebuild their life in the dark. Check out the You Tube Videos that demonstrate how other people like you are doing daily tasks. You can find a link to these on the ESFL Website under Resources>Hands Free Resources.>You Tube Tips and Topics to Explore. Have Fun!
