Message From Our Executive Director
In recent months, our center has spent a lot of time making sure our kids are getting around our community safely and are focused on going to school regularly.
Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office deputies visited our children and teens to discuss staying clear of gangs and avoiding spray-painting buildings (we’ve had several incidents of graffiti). They also talked to our youth about riding their bikes safely, encouraging them to always wear helmets and ride properly through the streets.
Our staff and volunteers also participated in “Book Walk” (see below) as part of our focus on getting children to show up for school on time and consistently.
This is really important…Research shows that attending school regularly helps children feel better about their schoolwork — and themselves. Good attendance also leads to children doing well later on in high school, college, and at work.
More specifically, missing just 10% of the school year can create serious difficulties in learning to read, especially among low-income children, who need more time in the classroom to master reading and are less likely to have access to resources outside of school to help them catch up.
It’s our job at Lake Worth West Resident Planning Group to do everything in our power to help families raise children so they are prepared for the world outside our community -- and that includes our work in keeping our youth safe and in the classrooms.
I encourage you to visit our center at 4730 Maine Street in Lake Worth and see for yourselves how we are changing lives. Contact me at my email (
