OPEN LETTER

FROM LCAC STAFF MANDY MEDRANO

I am happy to share our approach to Community Wellness, a guiding light for our upcoming programs as we move towards Las Bodegas

Over my 11-month journey with the Ofrendas program, I've witnessed firsthand the uplifting effects of art and culture on our community's mental well-being. Our diverse monthly offerings dive deep into Indigenous traditions and holistic practices, connecting us to the earth's natural rhythms. Seasonal activities have showcased the healing power of art for individuals and our people as a whole.

Alongside Cindy Loya, Artist and Assistant Coordinator, and local Mental Wellness Professionals, our community programs not only support mental well-being but also respect the wisdom of our elders. Our approach moving forward is synchronized with the four seasons, promotes a cycle of renewal, abundance, reflection, and rest, integral to holistic wellness

Join us monthly to deepen connections to land and heritage, fostering resilience within our community.

THE FUTURE OF LATINO ARTS @ LAS BODEGAS

COMMUNITY

WELLNESS

AT THE LATINO CULTURAL ARTS CENTER

At the Latino Cultural Arts Center (LCAC), Community Wellness is defined as embracing the natural cycles of the land by "living into the seasons". It facilitates awareness and presence attuned to each season, adapting, and flowing with the rhythms of nature. By harmonizing with the seasons, we cultivate balance, integrity, rest, and growth.

Community Wellness instills pride and belonging by reclaiming ancestral legacies and traditions. Centered on the whole person, our programs promote physical health, emotional well-being, and celebrate cultural heritage. Through intergenerational learning and collective empowerment, the LCAC leverages creativity to support healing from isolation and division.

A special thank you to Caring for Denver for allowing us the space to reimagine the role of cultural institutions as spaces for learning and healing!

The LCAC Makes Music History from

Denver + San Jacinto

The LCAC sponsored “Festi-Cumbia” in San Jacinto, Bolívar-Colombia (February 3-4), the inaugural international festival celebrating Cumbia music in honor of Maestro Andrés Landero, widely celebrated in Colombia as the “King of Cumbia.”

This event was organized by the Landero Vive Foundation and his grandson, Yeison Landero, and attracted an over 33,500 people. Adrianna was a panelist, where she shared insights into the Chicano experience, contributing to discussions on the enduring influence of Cumbia from Argentina, Chile, and Peru.

Mariachi Estelares 23’ was brought out of retirement for Somos Los Nuggets on March 29, 2024, where they performed the National Anthem in Mariachi for the first time in Nuggets history. They performed before an audience of 19,000 people who cheered on the defending world-champions, while Alfredo beat on the half-time drum!
