1 - 2023 Bulldog Bash - That's a Wrap ...

Until Next Year!

After a 3-year pandemic delay, the Bulldog Bash was back and better than ever on March 10th! While we all wish we could have been cheering on the Girls Varsity Basketball Team at Xfinity Center in person (and a victory!), the Bash provided the perfect place for a boisterous Watch Party.

The Bash was held this year at The Core, a new, upscale community club house with multiple large rooms and lots of comfortable furniture, gas fireplaces, and big screen TVs located only a few minutes from Churchill in Tower Oaks. The venue got rave reviews from Bash-goers especially for its layout which provided more space to move about have conversations without shouting while taking advantage of strategically placed tables, chairs, and large sofas throughout.

A huge shout out to our incredible Bulldog Bash Committee of 7 who worked tirelessly for months planning such a wonderful evening of socializing, cheering on the Churchill girls basketball team, bidding on auction items, and enjoying delicious food and the open bar, all to support Churchill Athletics! Rachael Datch, Claire Drummond, and Deb Muniz chaired the committee which included Margaret Carroll, Beth Dubin, Aby Filomeno, and Carrie Frey.

Missed the fun this year? Make sure to keep an eye out for a Save the Date for next year’s Bulldog Bash! (Lesson Learned: We’ll try to avoid winter sports state championship weekend next year!)

2 - Booster Club Membership & Information

Booster Club Membership - Spring Teams Join Now!

BE A PART OF THE TEAM BEHIND THE TEAM!

Thank you to all our families who have joined the Booster Club already this year and who have stepped up to volunteer to drive JV carpools, work concessions, and attend meets, games, and matches wearing your Bulldog spirit wear (available through our School Store online!). You are what makes Churchill athletics amazing. If you haven't joined yet, it's not too late!

Why join? Whether your student is an athlete, a fan, or participates in PE, the Booster Club helps make the experience safer, more competitive, and more fun by providing important resources and support!

What is the Booster Club? The Booster Club works with the Athletic Department to ensure that our athletes have the necessary equipment and facilities to compete safely and at the highest possible level each year. The county provides Churchill with only a fraction of what it takes to support our sports teams. In a typical year, the athletics budget spent per athlete (per roster spot) at Churchill is around $220, yet the County’s contribution is less than $80. The Booster Club plays a critical role in providing supplemental resources to help offset this shortfall.

Can’t remember if you joined this year? Several more teams are getting close to 100% membership! Will it be your team? If you can’t remember if you joined the Booster Club already this year, ask your Team Booster Rep or send an email to our Membership Chair, Claire Drummond and she’ll check for you! Help your team earn 10% of it’s membership dollars and $300 for 100% team membership!

Your annual membership in the Booster Club will provide our student athletes and teams with these resources.

3 - The School Store is Open!

Shop the School Store

STUDENTS/STAFF: Have you visited the School Store recently? The school store is stocked with lots of new Churchill Clothes in all sizes (S - 5XL). We have some new items - UA boys shorts, girls running shorts, hoodies and Under Armor Shirts!  Remember: Churchill teachers and staff get 20% off using cash or checks.  If we can get parents to sign up to volunteer to work, we strive to be open every Tuesday and Thursday during lunch.

PARENTS: We NEED YOU! We are looking for parents to sign up for 1-hour time slots in the school store on Tuesdays and Thursdays so we can open for the kids during lunch from 11:00 - 12:00 pm. We cannot open for the kids without parent volunteers. This is the perfect way to volunteer at the school if you only have an hour to spare while the kids are IN school! It is also fun to meet the kids, help support the Booster Club, and see all the cool clothes. No experience is necessary! Grab a friend and do it together!

We’re also looking for a School Store Manager to help more regularly in the Store, train new volunteers, help design and order new spiritwear. Again, no experience necessary for this role either so if any of this sounds interesting, please contact Tamara Greenspan or Bridget Calhoun to learn more!

Click here to volunteer at the school store!

4 - Stadium Concession Stand Opening on Tuesday, 3/21

After a successful winter season supporting the Churchill girls and boys basketball teams and the wrestling team, the Booster Club’s Indoor Concession Stand is now closed for the season. THANK YOU to all the basketball and wrestling parents as well as the parents from other season sports teams who volunteered this winter and contributed to a great fan experience! It was a busy season for the Concession Stand with record fan turnout, concluding with being open for 5 nights straight during the girls and boys basketball playoff games!

We are ready to serve fans attending spring season lacrosse games! The Stadium Concession Stand will officially open on Tuesday, March 21st for the JV and Varsity Boys Lacrosse Teams home openers! Come cheer on the JV team at 5:30 and your reigning state champion varsity boys lacrosse team at 7:15 as they take on Damascus! We hope to see you 2 days later for the girls lacrosse home openers on Thursday, March 23rd as they take on B-CC. JV starts at 5:30 and varsity at 7:15.

We’ll be open for all home girls and boys lacrosse games, serving Potomac Pizza, all-beef hot dogs, fresh popcorn, candy, chips, soft drinks, and more! We are trying out flavored seltzer water as well and welcome your suggestions and feedback on our menu!

Remember to bring small bills or spend at least $5 to use Apple/Google Pay or credit/debit cards. Most items cost $3 or less.

Any parents interested in volunteering this spring in the concession stand, please email Alison MoylanJake Lynn or Bridget Calhoun! It’s a great way to meet other Bulldog parent volunteers and be a part of a valuable game day tradition at Churchill! No Bulldog athlete or experience necessary to volunteer!

Way to go! It’s not too late for other Fall or Winter season teams to hit 100% as well. Your Team Booster Rep can check if you are not sure whether you joined this year, or contact Claire Drummond, our Membership Chair. Thanks to all our members for joining and supporting your athletes this year!

6 - Sponsor Spotlight & Sponsorship Opportunities

California Tortilla has been a staple in Cabin John Village. Read more here about what makes them so popular.

Potomac Pizza, also known as a fan favorite in our very own concession stand has been around since 1995. Learn more about how they have expanded into more than just pizza!

Do you own a business or know of a community business that would like to be featured here? Please visit our Advertising page here to learn more about our high visibility Booster Club Sponsorship advertising packages and how to get your logo on a Stadium Banner or on a Gymnasium Sponsor Glass Pane plus other valuable advertising perks!

A Stadium sponsorship package this spring provides brand exposure to Churchill and visiting spectators at boys and girls lacrosse games and track meets as well as the large number of community organizations and individuals that use the Stadium field and track every week. We are happy to discuss prorated rates for spring sponsorships as well as an extended spring + 2023-24 school-year sponsorship for maximum exposure. Contact Hayley Flack or Bridget Calhoun at [email protected] for more information.

7 - Booster Club Officer & Board Positions Open for 2023-24

We will be losing several long-time, dedicated volunteers who currently hold various roles on the Booster Club Board in June. We would love to hear from anyone curious about learning more about any of the open positions or how you can get involved in a fun volunteer organization dedicated to providing all Churchill athletes and sports teams with the resources and facilities required to support a safe and competitive high school athletics experience.

We have positions for various interests, strengths, and time commitments and are open to “role sharing” with a friend! Please consider how you can contribute and help out. We will have a number of vacancies on the Board in June and need to fill those positions so we can continue to provide the critical support our kids and coaches deserve and have grown to expect every year.

Please contact current Booster Club President, Bridget Calhoun, if you can help or with any questions about what various roles involve. It will be easier on our new Board members to learn from the outgoing Board members during a transition period this spring because many of our outgoing Board members will no longer have a student at Churchill after June 1st! Officer positions will be elected at our June 7th meeting and Board members appointed shortly thereafter.

Anticipated Officer & Board Position Openings starting July 1:

  • Recording Secretary
  • Treasurer
  • Vice President - Concessions
  • Membership Committee Chair
  • School Store Committee Chair
  • Spirit Committee Chair

You can learn more about who currently serves on the Board (aka “Leadership Team”) here and more about the Booster Club on our website. Bridget Calhoun and others on the Board are more than happy to talk to you about why we got involved, and more importantly, why we find our volunteer roles fun and rewarding!
