A Message From The Pastors

Jesus is the focus of our faith as we journey through Lent and into Holy Week. Honestly, Jesus is always our focus as we proceed through any season of the church year, or of life for that matter.  Jesus is the purest revelation of God that we have and the shining example of how faith looks and acts.
The beauty of this season of Lent at Immanuel is that we're spending a lot of time reflecting on the person of Jesus and growing in our relationship with him. The more we get to know him and what he was like, the more we can be like him. The Apostle Paul wrote in Philippians 2: 5 that our goal is to have the same mind as Jesus Christ.
We look forward to hearing from several of our Immanuel members as they share their reflections on Jesus each Wednesday evening of Lent.

5:45 - 6:15 PM - Lenten Suppers

Delicious Dinners of Homemade Soup & Sandwiches will be served in Fellowship Hall
each Wednesday of Lent!

6:30 PM - Worship
Lenten Worship held in the Sanctuary!

"I Am the Door" Speaker: Ellen Hanson
March 14th
" I Am the Good Shepherd"
Speaker: Scott Alonzo
March 21st
"I Am the Resurrection and the Life"
Speaker: Bobbi Gutman
I am sure that our friends at Immanuel will have some thoughts about Jesus that you have never considered. The perspective of others can help us broaden our own understanding and appreciate and celebrate one another as we grow in faith.   As far as our integration into Immanuel is going, we look forward to continuing to get to know the people and ministry of Immanuel. We are very busy but having a lot of fun. The best treat so far is getting to know the incredible people that make up our dynamic church family. Our prayer is that as we grow closer to Jesus, we will continue the great legacy of faith that will continue to make an important difference in Lake Geneva and beyond.

In Christ, Pastor Sara and Pastor Paul

Here's how it works:
Wednesdays - Ignite (Confirmation) - 5:30-7:30pm
Our regular Ignite youth group will begin to integrate Pr. Sara into the 'large group' teaching time. On the surface, Wednesdays will look and feel pretty familiar. Expect to continue to have fun, build friendships, and learn important spiritual lessons. We'll just be adding Pr. Sara into the mix.
Confirmation students, on top of Wednesday Ignite, will be expected to complete Worship reports, fulfill serving requirements, and have an experience in summer Bible camp or the Mission Trip.
We fully expect some students to participate fully on Wednesdays who are not on the 'confirmation track.' Our hope is that everyone will find Ignite to be a place where we grow in love for God and toward one another - following Jesus every step of the way!
The 'Sunday option' - 9:00-9:45
We are already aware of at least 2 middle school students who will not be able to participate in Wednesday Ignite. We are able to offer a Sunday morning class from 9-9:45. This will be led by volunteers. Please understand that Wednesdays are a far more complete experience including fellowship, spiritual practices, and student leadership opportunities. For those who cannot make Wednesdays work, Sunday morning will offer at least a scaled down experience of the program.

Confirmation Day for this year's 8th graders will happen
in the fall of their 9th grade year, at the end of October.
(on Reformation Sunday, the last Sunday of October 2018)

Next fall, we will have a confirmation retreat to fulfill all requirements
in preparation for their 'Affirmation of Baptism' - i.e. Confirmation Day.
Detailed information on this will be available in September of 2018.
If you have questions, please contact Pr. Sara:  or call 262-248-4211.

"FUEL" High School Youth Group
We have been having a lot of fun at FUEL. Looking ahead to March and April, the focus is going to continue to be building a Christ-Centered community of teens who can love and support one another. We had a great time putting together Ignite FUEL Sunday. Now we get to spend time in Scripture, prayer, and having some fun.

FUEL meets every Wednesday! 5:30 PM - Dinner; 6-7:30PM - FUEL

Registration for this summer's High School FUEL Mission Trip to the Pine Ridge Reservation is OPEN!
Where: Pine Ridge Indian Reservation - Kyle, South Dakota
When: July 21-29
Cost: $600 per student (Adult leaders $300)
Fundraising and scholarships are available!!!
There are 3 opportunities on the near horizon for students to earn money toward their $600 Mission Trip fee.
March - Sign up for the CHOCOLATE FEST work opportunities. We are extremely fortunate to have this opportunity to work at Chocolate Fest in Burlington. This event happens over Memorial Day Weekend, but the sign-up needs to happen this month!!!
April - Spaghetti dinner Dessert Auction. We are still trying to establish the date, but this event often brings in a lot of money to support students in their mission trip. It is hard work, but it will get the job done.
May/June - Since we organize this mission trip on our own, there will likely be opportunities for students to earn money by helping to plan the trip.
Contact Pastor Paul for more details.
Mission Trip Details: This year we go to Oglala Lakota County (on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation), one of the most impoverished areas in the USA. The unemployment rate is around 85%, half of adults have diabetes due to poor nutrition, the suicide rate is the highest in the nation, and substance abuse is rampant. In spite of all of this, the Oyate Teca Project remains a beacon of hope in the community. We will partner with Oyate Teca to play a key role in their gardening program, which helps people learn how to grow and preserve their own food - fresh fruits and vegetables! The Oyate Teca project is one of the most successful programs of its kind due to partnerships with people like us.  We will also explore the rich heritage and history of the Oglala Lakota people. Students can plan on spending some time in the Badlands and heading into the Black Hills.  Our 'mission' is to show our Lakota friends what the love of God is supposed to look and feel like. It's also to serve in Jesus' name, bringing important resources into an impoverished community and building friendships with people who have largely experienced alienation from the church.
Students can reserve their spot by completing the
registration and waiver (Available in church office)
and paying a $100 deposit.
Questions can be sent to Pr. Paul -

Care Team
Newcomers welcome to join and be a part of this amazing team!  This is an important time for us to share and communicate about the shut-in members we are caring for.  Please contact Kristin Larkin at 414-491-1969 or email her  at  for more info.  Also, if you have names of members who have indicated they would be in need of a visit from the Care Team please let Kristin or Bethany know and they will be added to the list of people enjoying visits from this wonderful ministry.

"Stitchin' for Kids"

The Wednesday morning quilters have a special project in the works.  They will be making fleece blankets for the children who come to The Tree House (Children's Advocacy Center, Elkhorn) due to suspected physical or sexual abuse and/or neglect.  Age range is anywhere from a couple weeks old to 17 years of age.  This can be a traumatic experience for these precious souls and the Tree House staff has found that if they are able to give them a "Lovie" when they arrive, or leave, it helps calm and sooth the children while the process is taking place.   If you would like to help with this worthwhile endeavor, many hands make the project go quickly besides the fact that it's fun!  Contact Jackie Kuehl for more information.   Another way to be involved is to give a monetary donation to help offset the cost of each blanket ($20 per blanket).  Donations can be placed in an envelope with "Stitching for Kids" on the outside and left with Bethany in the church office.  If you prefer to write a check, make it out to Immanuel Lutheran Church and put "Stitchin' for Kids" on the memo line.   The Wednesday morning quilters plan to have this as an ongoing project.  Last year 300+ children were served at the Tree House...that is a lot of blankets. Thank you for whatever you can do to be of assistance to these children.

*STAY TUNED....the HEARTS TO CARE ministry team is working diligently to get this ministry organized and anticipates that we will soon have Hearts to Care up and running.  To our wonderful volunteers - thank you!  We will be in touch with you soon for a brief training session.
God has given each of you some special abilities; be sure to use them to help others...   1st Peter 4:10-11

If you would like to give on-line, please see the Electronic Giving article above.

+      Thank you Janet Yakes for staying with me in the hospital while they were testing me for all sorts of things.  Thanks to those of you who sent the wonderful cards and the beautiful prayers shawl given to me through our Pastors Sara and Paul when I was in the hospital and had my gallbladder removed.  I am so blessed to have such a wonderful group of people in my life.  Words cannot express the amount of gratitude I have for all of you!  Your love and kindness for me is overwhelming.  Thank you again and may God Bless You!

+      The Tree House would like to thank you for your continued commitment to the children and families of Walworth County. We are constantly striving to provide the best support and resources available. It is our hope that one day, we will see a community where all children are safe and emotionally healthy, and all are well cared for.
Over 220 hams and turkeys were distributed to struggling families during the 2017 Thanksgiving and Christmas Season. We are very appreciative to  everyone who partnered with us in this effort and made the holidays better for so many in our community. Thank you also to Stinbrink's Piggly Wiggly for sourcing the products and to the Walworth County Sheriff's Office for storing the items until they were needed.
During the 2017 Christmas holiday season, over 125 children received gifts from volunteer "Christmas Elves" who wanted to make a difference in a child's life. This activity is an anonymous giving and receiving program. Gifts that were distributed included toys, bedding, food, clothing, boots, various kitchen items, cleaning supplies, and books. We are very grateful to all who helped with this annual endeavor including those who purchased or donated items, helped wrap gifts here at the Tree House and to those who delivered them to the families.   Many of Immanuel's members made donations during the Thanksgiving and Christmas season and several helped with the gift wrapping as well. We feel very fortunate to have the support of so many people and organizations in our incredibly generous community.
