Spring has sprung here in South Carolina. As we journey through the Lenten season, we reflect on renewal, perseverance, and hope—virtues mirrored in the changing of seasons around us.

In this month’s newsletter, you’ll find upcoming grant reminders, advocacy updates related to systems change, and ways to stay connected through events across the state.

We wish you strength, renewal, and encouragement for the road ahead this spring.

Reflections This Lenten Season

Lent is a time for reflection, renewal, and recommitment to serving others. As we continue this season, we share this short prayer:

God of renewal,

In this season of reflection, guide our hearts toward compassion and justice.

Strengthen our commitment to serve those most in need,

And remind us that even the smallest acts of love can transform our communities.

Amen.

Honoring Women's History Month

Throughout March, we are honoring Women’s History Month by highlighting women from South Carolina whose leadership and courage challenged unjust systems and advanced equity in their communities. Follow along on our social media channels as we share stories of women whose work continues to inspire progress and justice across our state.

Eviction Record Sealing Bill Advances

H.4270, the eviction record sealing bill, recently passed out of subcommittee in the South Carolina House. Several of our grantee partners helped advance the legislation by speaking at hearings and showing support throughout the process. The bill would allow certain eviction records to be sealed, helping individuals and families avoid long-term housing barriers tied to past filings.

Cover SC Advocate Call Day

Reaches Lawmakers

Cover SC hosted its Advocate Call Day on February 17, mobilizing advocates across the state to contact lawmakers about the healthcare coverage gap that affects thousands of working South Carolinians. Early reports indicate participants successfully reached State Senators in 35 of the 46 counties across SC. Efforts like these help ensure community voices are heard by our state's representatives!

SCACED Legislative Action Day

SCACED (the South Carolina Association for Community Economic Development) held their Legislative Action Day this month, and it was a huge success! Participants, including SCFSC President and SCACED Board Member Donna Waites, were briefed on SCACED’s legislative priorities before speaking to Senators at the Statehouse. A big focus of the day was the reauthorization of the Community Development Tax Credit (H.4164 and S.856).

For those interested in following legislative developments in South Carolina, several resources provide accessible updates throughout the session:
