Driving Progress: Insights from the Coconino Workforce Board Meeting

The recent Coconino County Workforce Board meeting was a pivotal gathering where key stakeholders and partners convened to discuss critical matters shaping local workforce development ecosystem.


Among the highlights was an in-depth review of ongoing initiatives aimed at enhancing employment opportunities, skill development for residents across diverse sectors, and the suggestion of a new board members to assist with meeting the needs of our local area. The board deliberated on strategies to address emerging challenges, such as adapting to evolving industry demands and ensuring equitable access to training programs.


Furthermore, the meeting provided a platform for collaborative brainstorming sessions, fostering innovative ideas to optimize resource allocation and maximize impact within the community. Participants exchanged valuable insights gleaned from their respective fields, contributing to a holistic approach towards workforce enhancement.

Apprenticeship in Construction and Trades Industry Meeting 

Over 20 businesses in construction and trades gathered for the Apprenticeship in Construction and Trades industry meeting last March 6. Interim State Apprenticeship Director Joann Bueno, Greater Flagstaff Chamber of Commerce Board member and Coconino County Workforce Development Board Chair Bruce Sobczak, and FUSD CTE Career Exploration Coordinator Patti Pastor led the discussion on apprenticeship as a sustainable career pathway. Thanks to Greater Flagstaff Chamber of Commerce President & CEO Julie Pastrick for hosting the meeting.

WIOA Success Story, Title I (Adult, Dislocated Worker, and Youth) 

John applied for the WIOA program in March 2023 and started training at High Country Law Enforcement Training Academy at Coconino Community College in April 2023. He received his certificate and started with Flagstaff Police Department in August 2023 making $28/hour with benefits.

Navigating the Future: Coconino County Workforce Board's Journey at the NAWB Conference

We are thrilled to share with you an exciting update from the Coconino County Workforce Board!


Our staff and board members recently had the privilege of attending the National Association of Workforce Board Conference (NAWB) in Washington, DC. During our time at the conference, we were immersed in valuable learning experiences, where we fine-tuned our knowledge and gained deeper insights into the state of local workforce ecosystems.


The opportunity to engage with industry leaders, share best practices, and explore innovative strategies has equipped us to better serve our community moving forward. We are excited about the knowledge and perspectives gained from this enriching experience and look forward to applying them to our initiatives and collaborations within Coconino County.
