Cesar Chavez is a champion of farm workers rights and is known for his efforts to gain better working conditions for the thousands of workers who labored on farms for low wages and under severe conditions. Chavez and his United Farm Workers union battled California grape growers by holding nonviolent protests.

|
San Diego, CA: The Waldorf School of San Diego will undertake a school-wide Equity, Inclusion and Diversity professional development training thanks to a recent grant award from The Michael Foundation.
“This work in diversity, equity and inclusion is such a live question in our world today and nowhere is it more important to awaken than in the Waldorf Schools,” stated Edward Hill, Trustee for The Michael Foundation. “Thanks to the Waldorf School of San Diego for taking this initiative.”
The Waldorf School of San Diego will work with Alma Partners, an association of trainers and educators whose goal is to help schools and other organizations operate with soul, supporting and leveraging current social, cultural, and political moments to strategize, transform and thrive while more deeply aligning practices with an organization’s fundamental values.

Geography in grade 4 covers San Diego and then also California. An important part of the work is map-making. We drew topographical maps showing San Diego and also California from west to east. Then we did maps in 3-dimensional details using beeswax. We drew California's borders and neighboring areas. Learning about the indigenous peoples of California was an important aspect of our work--their relationship to their ancestral lands both in the past and in the present. Having a Kumeyaay visitor was a highlight of the first block.

High School Mock Trial Wrap Up 2020-2021
|
I wanted to take the opportunity to thank you for your work and support in another successful mock trial competition. We were all in uncharted waters in this competition, given that it was via Zoom in the midst of a global pandemic! Like many other aspects of our lives over the past year, I think we all grew and learned a lot in response to the challenges it presented.
Our team did a great job in the competition. We kept our streak of award-winning performances going. Danny Marsh won an award for best performance as a defense witness. Each team member demonstrated tremendous growth in their skills and confidence. It was an honor to work with each of them.
Thanks,
Judge Goddard

Fundraiser Project: Illustrations for Salvation
Hello, Waldorf community!
My name's Guru Sahai and I'm in the 12th grade. For my senior grade project, I'm raising money through my art which will be donated to help the migrant community struggling on the U.S. - Mexico border. ArtByGuruSahai is my Etsy shop where I'm selling my original watercolor paintings as well as prints. My goal for this project was to raise $1000, however, I still need to raise $310 to reach my goal. For only $20 to $30 you can purchase a print to help me reach my goal and contribute to supporting those struggling, especially during these unprecedented times. You get to help others and get some pretty cool artwork while you do it!
But if you're not in a position to purchase, you can just spread the word! (Also, for a better deal, feel free to contact me through email or Instagram if you are interested in my artwork!).
Thank you for taking the time to read this and I hope you can help me make the world a little bit more of a better place!

Scrip Doctor is In!
Are you reaching your full scrip potential?
How it works:
Our families buy virtual and physical gift cards online at www.ShopWithScrip.com or on the RaiseRight App on their smartphones, or through the WSSD school store, The Snake & Lily to use in place of cash, checks, or credit cards for their regular everyday shopping. The Snake & Lily buys the gift cards from Great Lakes Scrip Center at a reduced cost to sell at full face value. The difference is immediate fundraising for our school!
|
|
Stay the course my friends, scrip can be a lot of fun and provide huge funds for the school, your class trips and even tuition credit! For more details, contact Liza Ferraro 619-318-8460 lferarro@waldorfsandiego.org
In Huge Gratitude,
