As I write this note, today marks the 2-year anniversary of the pandemic.  The last 24 months have brought fear, loss, sickness and mental health challenges to most of us.  Life brings regular challenges to the human condition, but those extraordinary challenges from Covid-19 have wrought havoc to us all that we will never forget.  In conjunction with the fading pandemic (we hope), the warmer days of March and the annual expansion of daylight hours offer a perfect time for reflection.  I see this spring as a special time for rebirth and an opportunity to evaluate priorities and areas of focus for our personal and professional lives.  For me, I feel more free and excited about life without masks and other impediments.

I hope that all of you seize this time to reflect on the most important elements in your lives.  At the Boys & Girls Clubs of Delaware, we take this time of year seriously for planning and development.  Our annual budgeting process begins soon, and we have also taken time to evaluate progress on our Vision 2023 Strategic Plan.  While we have much to do to bring better programs and services to our members, we have made significant progress on our plan.  Expanded programs for teens and new literacy programs will enhance member development.  Likewise, our focus on employee engagement helps our team members grow in a positive environment.  These initiatives will continue in the bright light of spring.

Emerging from the cloud of pandemic life provides motivation to me and our team to seize every opportunity to appreciate life’s relationships and embrace our Mission.  We aim to do the best we can for our members and encourage all team members to pursue a balanced life with purpose.  I wish the same for you and your families.

President & CEO

March Highlight: Do More 24 Success

This year during Do More 24, our organization received $28,604 from 275 donors! We are incredibly grateful for our community, and for the support of our mission to continue serving Delaware's youth. Thanks to these donations, our Club kids will have the opportunity to do more.

Encouraging confidence and empowerment, Girls on the Run has been a way to help our youth learn valuable life skills while staying active. Run by club staff and volunteers, our girls learn about the important connection between physical and mental health. We are excited to have our Girls on the Run program under way once again to encourage healthy lifestyles to prepare for Great Futures.

Club Activity: Sweet Heart Dance

Our clubs understand the importance of community. That is why our Western Sussex Boys & Girls Club regularly holds events to encourage local families and club members to come together. Their Sweet Heart Dance was filled with families, sweet treats and lots of dancing!
