AN EVENING WITH ADAM HOCHSCHILD

HISTORIAN, AUTHOR OF AMERICAN MIDNIGHT

Join American Public Square and the National World War I Museum and Memorial for an evening of discussion with the author of "American Midnight: The Great War, A Violent Peace, and Democracy's Forgotten Crisis." In this book, author and historian Adam Hochschild reassesses the overlooked but startlingly resonant period between World War I and the Roaring Twenties, when the foundations of American democracy were threatened by war, pandemic, and violence fueled by battles over race, immigration, and the rights of labor.

ALLAN KATZ ON AMERICAN MIDNIGHT

"This book reflects on a time in America where a changing demographic in our population was met with fear. Our government under the progressive Woodrow Wilson trampled basic freedoms of dissenters which resulted in a shameful yet still little known chapter in the American experience. "

THE RISE OF ANTISEMITISM FROM THE LEFT AND THE RIGHT | SEPTEMBER 2021

In September 2021, American Public Square at Jewell, JCRB | AJC Kansas City and Jewish Federation of Greater Kansas City presented the program “The Rise of Antisemitism From the Left and the Right” in response to the increasing presence of Antisemitism in the U.S. and its unexpected sources.

Unfortunately, this trend is one that continues to grow. A report released this month from the American Jewish Committee indicates there has been a 500% increase in reports of antisemitic incidents in Kansas and Western Missouri since the Hamas attacks on Israel on October 7.

A recording of the program, "The Rise of Antisemitism from the Right and the Left" can be seen here. Program panelist, Ted Deutch, former Congressman and current CEO of the American Jewish Committee will return to Kansas City for an April 16 event hosted by JCRB | AJC Kansas City, "Driving out Darkness in the Heartland: 2024 Regional Summit on Combating Antisemitism."

The 2021 antisemitism program was recapped in this highlight video produced by Flatland KC.
