Commercial Real Estate - Is the Future Now?
Stefan Calos, Shareholder and member of Sands Anderson's Business Litigation and Government groups, recently wrote an article on the current and future state of commercial real estate.

"In commercial real estate, a mortgage (deed of trust in Virginia) can provide the best of both worlds—allowing investors and developers to benefit now and in the future.

But what happens when the world suddenly turns upside down?"

HCA's New Air Care Eagle
By now, you may have seen the navy blue and orange helicopter perched on the rooftop helipad at Chippenham. We have exciting news that our medical transport helicopter, HCA Virginia Air Care Eagle (we call her ACE), debuted December 1 in partnership with Med-Trans. This increases HCA’s ability to respond to emergencies. This is only the third air ambulance program mobilized to serve Central Virginia since 1984 – ACE’s service area is a 100-nautical mile radius from Chippenham, where it will be poised and ready for deployment. The medical team can respond and be “skids up” within 10 minutes of receiving a call and will receive medical transport requests from any medical institution or emergency medical service agency within the service area. This is a huge service to our community and our healthcare partners and another way we are focused on caring like family.

Reminders from Mitchell Wiggins Regarding COVID-19 and PPP Loans
Mitchell Wiggins is reminding sole proprietors (business owners that file their business taxes on Schedule C of their personal return) that the Paycheck Protection Program still has funds available and recent program changes may allow them to potentially receive more funds.  An article about the changes and provided some tools to calculate loan amounts can be found here.
The Firm is also reminding all businesses that received Paycheck Protection Program loans that they may also now be eligible for the Employee Retention Credit. The credit is up to $19,000 per employee. This is a payroll tax credit that is claimed on a business’ quarterly payroll tax filings. It was created to help businesses that were directly, or sometimes indirectly, impacted by the government mandates shutdowns and partial shut downs. Hopewell Prince George Chamber members can watch a recording of our webinar here for more details.
Mitchell Wiggins has also created a Business COVID Resource Center where business owners can find articles, tools, and webinars on a variety of relief programs enacted by Congress over the last 12 months.
