Lucky Beginnings: Adoptions to Celebrate!

As we step into our 29th anniversary month, we’re feeling extra lucky to share these incredible adoption stories.

After waiting three years and eight months, Scraggles finally found his forever home. His long journey proves that patience, love, and a little luck can lead to the happiest endings.

Scraggles wasn’t the only one with a lucky break this month. Mabel and Dipper’s story began in the worst way imaginable. They were found tied up in bags and abandoned on our front bench, but their fate took a turn for the better. These two inseparable cats found a loving home together, proving that even the darkest beginnings can lead to the brightest futures.

These lucky pets got the happy endings they deserved thanks to supporters like you. February was an amazing month for adoptions, with 36 cats and dogs finding their forever homes!

Thank you to The Gabi Foundation for supporting APR's mission in memory of Gabrielle Lewis, a dedicated youth volunteer who passed away too soon. Her love for animals continues to make a difference today.

In 1996, APR began by helping community cats.

Today, we provide daily care for 150 cats plus 35 dogs. Donations of dry and wet cat food is always needed to keep the cats fed and healthy.

Last week APR welcomed its 8th cohort with Arc Broward students through their Arc Educates Animal Care Certificate Program

The goal of this program is to train individuals with disabilities and other barriers to employment so they can pursue jobs in animal-related fields. Since beginning this program with Arc Broward in 2022, APR has since hired two employees who graduated from this program.

We are looking forward to having the newest student Olivier, learn from the program’s instructor, Gabi.

Olivier has always loved animals and is looking forward to interacting with them through this program. He is studying to become a veterinarian in the future, so there is no better way to start!

Gabi finds this partnership with APR unique because it is a smaller facility than bigger veterinary clinics or hospitals, which allows the students to have more hands-on experience. When asked her favorite outcome of the program so far, Gabi without hesitation said “the bond my students make with the animals.

At Abandoned Pet Rescue, volunteers are the heart of everything we do. Every month, we shine a spotlight on one of our incredible volunteers who make a difference in the lives of our animals.

Mama D – 6 years old

Waiting for a home: 5 years 9 months. (2123 days)

I’m Mama D! What’s the D stand for, you ask? It might be for “Dauntless,” because I was rescued while pregnant and living outside. I’m about 6 years old now, and my babies have all found new homes, and now I’m hoping for my turn. The D could be for “Devoted,” because that’s what I’ll be when I find my new family. There aren’t any mirrors here at APR, so I don’t really know what I look like, but everyone says I have “Dazzling” turquoise-blue eyes.
