Welcome, Spring!

Spring brings new life and new adventures! (And for those of us in Arizona, higher temperatures!) We hope that this spring brings many wonderful beginnings!

Easter Store Closures

In observance of Easter, our Paradise Valley Festival, Arrowhead Towne Center, Tucson Mall, and San Tan Village locations will be closed on Sunday, April 20th. We look forward to seeing you during our normal business hours the following day.

Canine Fitness Month

April is Canine Fitness Month! Regular exercise has benefits for both you and your dog. Beyond the physical aspects of staving off obesity, arthritis, and extending your dog’s life, exercise supports your dog’s mental health as well. A good dog is a tired dog, as they say – and a tired dog is a

happy dog!

How much exercise your pup requires will depend on their breed, and for growing puppies you should limit high-impact exercise while their joints develop. Here are some ideas to help you and your puppy start your Canine Fitness Month off with a bang!

Crates

The humble crate is one of the most powerful tools in a puppy owner’s arsenal. The simple act of crate training your puppy has a vast array of benefits.

First and foremost, a crate keeps your puppy secured when you cannot watch them. This both stops your puppy from being destructive toward your home and keeps your puppy safe from hazards that they could get into while you’re not looking.

Second, crates can assist with potty training. Puppies will instinctively not want to soil their sleeping environment and will avoid relieving themselves in their crate if at all possible. By training your puppy to go straight from the crate to their designated relief area outside, you can also reduce the number of accidents in the house.

Third, crate training your puppy means that you are able to securely transport your pet. This is a safety measure both for the driver and for your dog! If you ever need to take your dog on a long trip or on a plane, they will be much more comfortable having been crate trained in advance.

Fourth, having a crate helps your puppy build independence, which eases separation anxiety, excessive barking, and other unwanted behaviors. Your dog’s crate is like their room. Having their own private space gives your puppy somewhere to go to decompress. In fact, owning multiple crates can be useful for just this purpose – your puppy can have their own secure place in different rooms of your home!

This is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the benefits of crate training. Learn more about the benefits of crate training and how to crate train your dog here.

Did you know?

Have you ever been overwhelmed with how cute something is? As of the month of March, there’s officially a word to describe this feeling – gigil.

This Tagalog word has been officially adopted into the English language, and means “an intense feeling caused by seeing something cute or adorable, typically physically manifested by the tight clenching of hands, gritting of the teeth, trembling of the body, or the pinching or squeezing of the person or thing causing this emotion”.

While we definitely don’t recommend pinching or squeezing our puppies, we can understand feeling overcome with how cute they are! Show your gigil in other ways, like a scratch behind the ears or a gentle cuddle!

Breeder Spotlight

We are proud to work with breeders that are committed to animal welfare, and twice per year we even visit a number of these breeders! Meet one of the breeders that we have visited numerous times over the years - Danny Bailey!

Some words from Danny:

"We take pride in the way we take care of our dogs, puppies, and kennels. It shows in the quality of dogs that we keep and breed.

We assume a lifetime responsibility for every puppy we send home. Our Homes for Life program is the result of this commitment and our dedication to preventing pet homelessness.

We understand that for unfortunate and unforeseen reasons sometimes customers who purchase our puppies can no longer care for them. For this reason, our customers agree to relinquish the dog to us, not a shelter.

We do this to ensure that we can find them a new, loving home but first provide them with the rehabilitation and care that they may need in addition to a neuter/spay as part of our commitment to responsible pet ownership.

Please help us find these babies

homes by sharing their photos/info!

Loki

Male Schnauzer

Birthday: 4/2/2024

Adoption fee: $499.99

Breeder: Sharrie Ogle

USDA: 43-A-6527

Don’t let the name fool you – Loki is no trickster, but quite a lovely little dog. He sweet and shy and love to be held for snuggles. While he came from a home with children, he would probably do best in a quiet home. Once he comes out of his shell, he is extremely affectionate and devoted to his people.

Who We Are
If you're new around here, please watch our newest introduction video that illustrates our mission, values, how we care for our puppies and our quality breeders:
To ensure that all of our puppies find homes in a timely manner, we reduce their price as they age.

By no means are we lowering the cost of these puppies because they are in any way less valuable, but it’s our mission to find each of our puppies a permanent, loving home as quickly as possible.

To paraphrase the late, great Freddie Mercury – can anybody find him somebody to love? This young Shih Poo boy has been patiently awaiting his forever family at our Arizona Mills Mall location. He crossbreed of two hypoallergenic breeds would do well in a home where shedding is a concern, and he has a lot of love to give the right family! Stop by or give us a call at (480) 831-2877 and meet him today!

Local Corner

At Animal Kingdom and Puppies ‘N Love, we are in and of the Valley, and we are committed to uplifting other businesses in our community. Here is a business we think you’ll like:

Groomin Tyme is a small, family-run dog groomer that values connection, both with their customers and their dogs. In their more than twenty years of service in the valley, they have helped countless dogs look and feel their best. Some dogs have even been groomed by Grace and her husband for their entire lives!

While Groomin Tyme serves dogs of all ages, breeds, and sizes, they specialize in dogs that need some extra care. This includes senior dogs that may suffer from cognitive decline or arthritis, handicapped dogs, or aggressive dogs. They tailor their approach based on every dog’s individual needs, and their cage- and kennel-free environment helps put dogs at ease. They also provide their services for rescues and veterinary clinics in the area in their spare time.

Groomin Tyme is located in North Phoenix and is open Tuesday-Saturday. Give them a call at (602) 866-1566. For more information and customer reviews, check out their Yelp page.

BUYERS BEWARE
ARIZONA RANKS HIGH ON BBB'S LIST OF PUPPY SCAMS COMMITTED IN 2022

In the last few years, online pet scams are on the rise and have caused grief for people seeking new pets, with little to no recourse for the victims.

According to the Better Business Bureau, Arizona is at the top of the list for puppy scams per 100k people.

California is the state with the most reported puppy scams, with 167 scams reported to the Better Business Bureau from January 1, 2022 to October 31, 2022. This makes up more than 10% of the total number of scams reported nationwide.

SPOTTING A SCAM

If you are looking for a puppy, be careful & remain vigilant!

Here is how to spot a puppy scam online from AKC:

  • No phone calls. The seller prefers to handle communication by email and not the phone. A reputable breeder will always communicate with you via phone or video chat (if not in person) before selling you a puppy. Fraudulent sellers are oftentimes outside of the U.S. and may be hiding their phone number by only communicating by email.
  • Copycat or stock photos. Photos of the dog or ad text can be found on multiple websites. Search for the text or reverse image search the photos on Google to find out if they were copied.
  • Sketchy payment. The seller asks for wiring of money or payment by gift cards. Be aware that if you choose a non-secure method of payment, it is highly unlikely that you will get your money back. Avoid paying a stranger using apps such as Venmo, as it is harder to get your money back if you don’t get what you paid for.
  • Price is too good to be true. Research the prices for the breed you are considering. Purebred dogs sold at deeply discounted prices are typically frauds. If the seller says they register their dogs with a specific organization, you can call the organization to confirm.
