A MESSAGE FROM THE CEO:

We are only a few months into 2024 and there have been so many special moments to celebrate as an organization. In January, we kicked off the new year by naming 4 exceptional members as our Youth of the Year and in February, we recognized 12 high school members at our Mission Awards Banquet. These individuals are truly inspiring all of those around them, including me. Every year I am blown away by the influence the Club has on young people in our community. I feel fortunate to be a small part of the big impact the Club makes everyday.

In February and March, we also hosted 136 teams at our Girl's and Boy's McDonald's Basketball Classic. It was a great way to highlight our athletics program and our beautiful facilities for nearly 5,000 local and non-local spectators. This year marked our 42nd year of hosting the McDonald's Classic!

Please take some time to check out all the activities happening in our Clubs, and thank you for your continued support.

Your gift helps us continue to inspire & empower all kids.

Help Inspire Kids!

Local Youth of the Year

We are very proud to have four Youth of the Year to represent each community in our organization! Candidates prepared an essay and gave a speech to a panel of judges. Applying for Youth of the Year gives members scholarship opportunities and a chance to compete at the state level.

State Youth of the Year

Felipe, a member of the Amie L. Mathy Club, was selected as our state representative! Felipe is pictured giving his speech at the State Capitol, broadcasted over the Wisconsin Eye. He competed along side of 14 youth from all over Wisconsin. We are proud of all Felipe has accomplished and can't wait to see where his future takes him!

Mission Awards

12 teens were honored at our Mission Awards Dinner for representing the Club's mission as respectful, responsible, and caring members. Staff awarded recipients with a plaque and gave a speech to highlight their accomplishments. Award winners shared remarks about what the Club has meant to them!

Club-Wide Teen Night

All of the Clubs came together for a Club-wide teen night, hosted at the Skogen Club. Teens and staff decorated cookies and played basketball, volleyball, and Minute to Win It games. The prizes offered for participation were a big hit!

Club staff and members always look forward to getting together to build new relationships and to experience what it's like to attend another Club!

Onalaska Outreach Site

As construction continues at the middle school site, we are offering programming for teen members. There has been an increasing amount of teens enrolled and participating in after-school programming. We are excited to be in the Ona Community and can't wait for all the programming opportunities to come!

La Crosse Lightning

La Crosse Lightning came to introduce the sport of Lacrosse to Brenengen and Skogen BGC members! Grades 4th & up enjoyed learning about the first sport in North America. La Crosse Lightening is starting to organize the sport throughout the Coulee Region.

Sail to Success Program

At the Skogen Club, members met their tutoring session goals for the month and as a reward got to pie their tutors in the face! The education staff are willing to do whatever it takes to motivate members toward their academic goals!

Snowboarding

Thank you to Mt. La Crosse, Derek Nordeen, and Brent Wilkerson for teaching a new group of teens to snowboard this winter. Teens had a great time trying a new skill, learning about courage, and enjoying the mild winter outside!

The snowboarding program continues to be a teen fan-favorite and something members look forward to each winter.

"Be Great: Graduate" College Visit

In collaboration with the La Crosse Promise Future Center, students from Central and Logan BGG programs traveled to Western Technical College to learn more about some of the career pathways available to them after high school. Students pictured are observing what it would be like to work in a hospital.

McDonald's Classic

We had another successful year with 136 teams participating in our McDonald's Basketball Classic making this our biggest tournament of the year! We cannot thank Courtesy Corporation enough for their 42 years of continued support!

BGC WRESTLING

Congratulations to all our BGC Wrestlers on a great season! 11 athletes are headed to State: Jarek Jonhson, Liam Barbara, Caleb Rickert, Jaxon Bauer, Easton Allert, Kehler Trost, Jonas Wopat, Rylan Wells, Xander Johnson, Tenley Wells, and Megan Ramsay.

Northside Youth & Family Specialist

"I moved to Wisconsin almost four years ago from my home state of Michigan. My background is in education, and I followed my dream of teaching high school English for three years before I pivoted to a new adventure, moving to Wisconsin to work in adolescent behavioral health in a wilderness setting. Last year, I began studying to earn my Master's in Social Work. I love working at the BGC because it allows me to play alongside kids and learn about the world through their eyes. I hope to become a trusted, and fun addition to our members' support system. When I am not at the BGC you might find me baking too much bread, hiking the bluffs, watching horror movies, or supporting local music."

Welcome to the team, Sierra!

Holmen Youth & Family Specialist

"I am from Central Wisconsin. I received my Bachelor of Science in psychology from Viterbo University and I am continuing my education at Viterbo to get my Master's of Science in School Counseling. I have been working at the Boys & Girls Club for the past two years as a teen program staff. I'm excited to shift into a role that allows me to be a support for members and staff. Outside of work I enjoy yoga, running, and being outdoors.”
