Aquamarine is not only the birthstone for March, but the gem is also given as a present on the 19th wedding anniversary . As for famous ones, in 1936 the government of Brazil gave First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt a dark blue rectangular step cut aquamarine that weighed 1,298 carats (ct). It was the larger of two stones faceted from a piece of aquamarine rough that itself weighed an impressive 2.9 pounds (1.3 kilograms). It is now housed at the Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum in Hyde Park, New York. (GIA.edu)

HOLLYWOOD INSPIRATION

Inspired by the Red Carpet style of actress Issa Rae, this client had long sought what to do with a very large, loose blue topaz gemstone that she had purchased while traveling. The dimensions of the topaz lent itself perfectly in proportion to the sizable cascade drop pendant worn by the actress. A 14 karat gold "basket" was custom made in which to set the gemstone and multiple strands of shimmering diamond "tassels" where secured beneath the gem. A pave diamond bail, strong and large enough to support the weight and size of the pendant, was positioned at the top. The pendant can be suspended from a diamond necklace (as shown) or worn on a ribbon or silk cord. The end result was a gorgeous pendant that can rock any Red Carpet!
