Please remember your child's winter coat, mittens, & hat on cold days!  We would happily accept donations of gently used winter apparel. This will help children in need stay warm and dry.
STEM Young Architects
We are starting another after school enrichment program called Young Architects, which will run until April vacation. We will read fun stories about what architects do, the important elements of buildings, and some different types of drawings that architects use to create their designs. Our first session will focus on architecture as problem solving. Students will be challenged to use straws and connectors to build a shelter large enough to hold their team of three! We’ll learn about sustainability, and use our imaginations to draw floor plans, sections and elevations of the buildings we would like to create.

Physical Education
Mr. Kirk
It has been a wonderful February in the Physical Education Program here at Stony Brook. We have been working on our heart healthy exercise and jumping skills. Your student has learned about how jumping games and activities help to keep our hearts healthy. We have also learned about some of the reasons eating too much of unhealthy foods, especially salty snacks and sugars, can make our hearts unhealthy.
Our jumping unit tied perfectly into our Jump for Heart Fundraiser in which students were encouraged, make heart healthy choices with food and exercise, and also to collect donations for the American Heart Association.  SBES has raised $5,625 to help fight and prevent heart disease. GREAT JOB!
As we look ahead to March, we will be starting our ball skills unit for our feet. We have already worked on ball skills that use our hands, but in March we will work on ball skills that use our feet, such as kicking, trapping, dribbling and passing.
I would also like to remind everyone that students are required/expected to wear sneakers to PE. With the weather forcing us into boots, it is especially important to be aware of your students PE days, and send them with sneakers, even if they only wear them in the GYM.

Thank you to all that have completed the School Council Survey. For those that have not, please take 5 minutes to complete this survey which focuses on our three priorities.

Students are allowed to play in the snow on outdoor recess days as long as they have boots, snow pants, warm jacket, hat and mittens or gloves. Last week students had so much fun sliding down the hill in back of the school and building snowmen.
