In Taekwondo, we don't just train our bodies - we train our minds. Perseverance means pushing forward despite difficulties, while determination fuels our desire to achieve our goals. Every black belt was once a white belt who refused to quit. This week really reminded us of what Taekwondo can do for our mind & body and how much of an investment it is physically and mentally. When you allow it, it can really teach you life lessons that extend beyond one class or a season. Everything is easy when you are motivated - discipline is something that every Black Belt can proudly say they have ( even if it was enforced discipline from mom & dad ;) ) . It's ok, it's our job! One day, those mom & dad enforced lessons will carry them through difficult times.
How to apply Perseverance & Determination in Training:
• Set goals - define what you want to achieve for the month or break it down even smaller by week, or day. It could be improving on your form (set a measurable goal - i.e. do my form(s) every night this week).
• Embrace Challenges - Mistakes and failures are part of learning. Think of them as an opportunity & not a reason to give up. Trust the process.
• Stay consistent - Show up, work hard, and you'll see results. Not all professional athletes were born with Talent - it's consistent hard work, discipline, and self-belief. Persevere through all of the set-backs, failures, and challenges & never stop believing that you can achieve what you work for.
Challenge for this month:
We challenge you to do your current form(s) every night this month. Each day focus on something you want to improve - your form, stances, power, breathing...
Take note of how you feel each day when you're about to complete this challenge. Sometimes, you'll feel great - but it's the times when you're tired, run down, or "do not feel like it" that will test you. This is where Perseverance & Determination come in!
