Outreach Global's first Global Community Day Festival set for Friday, April 8

Please join Auburn University Outreach Global for the premier Global Community Day for Friday, April 8. The event will take place in two locations in the Auburn-Opelika area and will feature many fun, family-friendly activities.  The festival is aimed to help community members experience diverse cultures through arts and crafts, games, music, and food. The purpose of this festival is to bring international and domestic communities together to learn and experience the global culture, history, cuisine, and related opportunities. 


The kick-off event will take place from 10:00 A.M. – 1:00 P.M. at the Jule Collins Smith Museum. The main event will be from 3:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M. at the Opelika Public Library, featuring “Taste of the World” and Trade Fair, as well as K-Pop group, MustB, performing from 6-8 P.M. MustB is a group from Seoul, Korea that is best known for their song "I Want You." They also spread messages of positivity through their slogan - MustB a Light.


Sponsors of the event include AU Outreach, city of Auburn, city of Opelika, Jule Collins Smith Museum of Fine Art, NFBPA, and Spicer’s Music.

GEDI welcomes Jordan Kramer

Jordan Kramer joined the GEDI team in December of 2021 as a Training Program Specialist. In this role, he coordinates the Economic Development Association of Alabama (EDAA) Leadership Institute, the Alabama Local Government Training Institute, the Intensive Economic Development Training Course, and many other programs and events. Jordan received his bachelor’s degree in political science from Auburn, minoring in community engagement.

Tiger Giving Day - Thank you!

Auburn University Outreach wants to thank everyone who participated in the Tiger Giving Day projects this year. Below is a brief description of our projects, and how much they raised.


OLLI - This project was created to ensure our senior adults can hear, engage, and participate in our programs and classes. 

Raised: $14,227


GEDI - This project will allow us to obtain the technology we need to continue providing our important services throughout the state, expand our course offerings, and allow our participants to continue and advance in their careers in the most cost-effective, safe and convenient way possible.

Raised: $5,275


Campus Kitchen - This campaign is raising funds to purchase two vertical hydroponic gardens, supplies for their cultivation including seeds and substrate, and other expenses to ensure their year-round upkeep and production.

Raised: $6,635

Role in Outreach: Graphic Design and Publications Intern


"University Outreach enthusiastically welcomes Ms. Sloen Zieverink as our first Graphic Design and Publications intern. Her key responsibility has been launching our new AUOutreach eNewsletter, and providing editing support to the Beyond Auburn magazine. Sloen brings a wealth of experience to this position as a Public Relations Communications major. She has held multiple positions that support her work in this area including: a student administrative assistant in the office of the VP of student affairs, Assistant VP of Communications and Marketing for the SGA, and a Camp War Eagle student orientation leader. Her honors include a “Service Before Self” scholarship from the Rotary Club of Birmingham, and memberships in Omicron Delta Kappa Honor Society and Phi Eta Sigma Honor Society, among others. She is well respected among her peers and is an absolute delight personally and professionally." - Dr. Hollie Cost, Assistant Vice President, University Outreach and Public Service

COMMUNITY PARTNER FEATURE


"Our mission is to share the love of Jesus Christ and His good news of hope by providing quality, compassionate medical care to the medically underserved of Lee County, Alabama."


Mercy Medical offers a wide variety of services, including family medical care, women's health screenings, spiritual counseling, a prescription assistance program, and much more.


Many of their volunteers are pre-health students at Auburn University. Volunteers from Auburn school of nursing, pharmacy, VCOM, etc. Mercy Medical has over 100 volunteers that serve each month in clinical and operational roles. Mercy also has hired clinical and office staff to increase the operating hours to Monday through Thursday. Their patient volumes have doubled in the last year and they continue to build their clientele of new patients and also continuing to see established patients.


Funding and donations come from churches, civic organizations, and individuals. As a result, we are able to serve the medical needs of patients in Lee County and the surrounding area. We can only provide the services we offer because of the generosity of our community.
