Spring is near!

I write this letter as thunderstorms are heading towards Texas, but alas, spring is nearly here. A time of emerging from our cocoons…that phrasing reminded me of a sweet member of my church, Doris Webb. There are typically 4 times within a year, that a month will have a fifth Sunday. My congregation, anytime there’s a fifth Sunday in the month, forgo a sermon and instead let our members choose their favorite hymns for us all to sing.

Doris Webb would always request Chalice Hymnal #638, “In a Bulb There Is a Flower”. Doris left this world two years ago, and hymn #638 remains the first hymn we sing on fifth Sunday’s in her memory. The lyrics in the song talk about there being a season for everything, a time for every purpose. Just like Garth Brooks alluded to as well…sometimes the greatest gifts are unanswered prayers. That pill can be hard to swallow, but goodness am I ever thankful for many unanswered prayers over the years.

As our Ability program leads continue to plan out this year’s events and programming, we would really love to hear what your needs are right now. At the end of 2021, our members asked for an annual all-member meeting, a neurodiversity support call, a grief support call, a wellbeing program, and a platform to share their own stories. We listened and delivered, and those programs are thriving.

Be candid and tell us what do you need in this new season?
