Rancho Cordova Appoints Shaun Hampton as Chief of Police | |
The City of Rancho Cordova is pleased to announce the appointment of Shaun Hampton as the new Rancho Cordova Chief of Police, effective March 2026.
Hampton, a Sheriff’s Captain with over 25 years of law enforcement experience with the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office, fills the role to be vacated by current Chief of Police Matthew Tamayo, who will retire in March 2026.

Community Enhancement & Investment Fund Application Period Is Open
The city is now accepting Community Enhancement & Investment Fund grant applications! The city will provide grants to individuals, organizations and community partners who are interested in enhancing the Rancho Cordova community through arts, culture, history, entertainment, youth services, and other community-oriented programs and projects.
Applications are available to submit now through Friday, March 13, 2026, at 12 PM PST. If your project or program will take place at a school or park, your application is due by Friday, March 6, 2026, at 12 PM.

FCUSD Students Create Waves of Kindness on Campus
More than 2,400 elementary students across Rancho Cordova are participating in a powerful social–emotional learning art experience this month, inspired by the book The Magic of Making a Difference: One CAN Make a Difference.
The initiative, Waves of Kindness, invites students to design their own colorful flag banners using drawings, poetry, stickers, and handwritten messages of encouragement.
Thanks to generous grant support from the City of Rancho Cordova Government, all creative materials are being provided at no cost to participating schools through the Community Enhancement and Investment Fund.

STEM-Focused Grant Programs Inspire Local Youth
From September through January, Rancho Cordova youth participated in two innovative STEM-based after-school programs supported by the Community Enhancement & Investment Fund. Falkon Robotics hosted a robot-building program at Mitchell Middle School, while Suvidha International Foundation led an Industrial AI Agent Development program at Cordova High School.

The city, in partnership with the Sacramento Tree Foundation, provides all Rancho Cordova residents with up to 10 free shade trees.

Take the Survey! Lincoln Village Neighborhood Pavement Rehabilitation Project
The city wants to hear from you! The city is currently designing a project to rehabilitate the pavement, update sidewalk and curb ramp accessibility, improve storm drainage, and install traffic calming devices in the Lincoln Village neighborhood. This project aims to upgrade accessibility, increase pedestrian safety, improve water conveyance, and extend the life of the pavement.

Applications for the Community Pride Scholarship Now Open!
The City of Rancho Cordova is proud to award
two $1,250 Community Pride Scholarships
to graduating high school seniors who demonstrate outstanding community service, leadership, and academic excellence. The Community Pride Scholarship was created and is funded by City of Rancho Cordova employees, with support from the City of Rancho Cordova, which matches $1 for every hour city employees volunteer within the Rancho Cordova community. All application materials must be received by 5 PM on Friday, March 20, 2026.

Free Pet Vaccine & Microchip Clinics Dates for 2026
The City of Rancho Cordova Animal Services Division is offering free drive-thru rabies vaccines and microchips for pets belonging to Rancho Cordova residents throughout 2026. Appointments are required and open two weeks prior to each clinic date. Clinics are held from 8 AM - 12 PM at Neighborhood Services, 2880 Gold Tailings Court.

Kitten Season is Here: Support Animal Services by Donating Items
Looking for ways to support the Animal Services department during kitten season? Help lost or stray cats stay safe and comfortable while in care by donating clean towels or blankets and new pet items to the city's Animal Services Division. Arrest Made in Rancho Cordova Little League Embezzlement Case
In Spring 2025, Rancho Cordova Little League reported more than $80,000 stolen following a fundraising event involving hired DJ Joseph Eta.
The Rancho Cordova Police Department, working with the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office and the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office located Eta in Modesto and took him into custody without incident.
He was arrested for forgery and grand theft, posted bail, and appeared in court on February 26, 2026. The investigation remains ongoing, and anyone with additional information is encouraged to contact the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office or Sacramento Valley Crime Stoppers.

RCPD Officers Help Locate Missing Woman
In February, RCPD officers responded to a report of a missing elderly woman who suffers from dementia. Given her condition, there was immediate concern for her safety and officers quickly coordinated their response and conducted a focused and coordinated area search. As a result of their efforts, the woman was located safely and reunited with her family without incident.

Each year, thanks to generous sponsors, partners, and a portion of Airshow ticket proceeds, the California Capital Airshow awards scholarships to students pursuing education in aviation, aerospace engineering, environmental science, airport management, aircraft maintenance, aviation safety, and other STEM fields. Applications open January 13, 2026, and close May 1. Recipients will be announced on June 1.
