All Call for 3 Children's Books for the Summer Battle of the Books *
The Miami-Dade Grade Level Reading Campaign is currently seeking talented local authors to participate in the Fourth Annual Battle of the Books on Thursday, July 21 held at summer programs across the county. Battle of the Books is a county-wide competition to encourage children in grades K-5 to strengthen their reading superpowers and read over the summer months to prevent summer slide. This year’s Battle of the Books will showcase books that celebrate inclusion and the diversity of our community.
Your book will be selected as one of three books to be purchased and distributed to children attending partnering summer camps. To be considered, approximately 250 printed copies of your book must be available for purchase by early May, and participation in the battle competition is required. If you are interested in having your book considered, please complete this application by Sunday, March 20. Finalists will be asked to interview with the planning committee. Authors will be notified of final selections by April 8.
Requests for M-DCPS Letters of Support for Trust Solicitations Must be in by March 4
If your organization intends to request a letter of support from Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS) for any of The Children’s Trust grant applications due on March 25, please note that letters of support from M-DCPS may only be provided by the Superintendent of Schools, not individual school site principals. Your request must be submitted through the M-DCPS Office of Grants Administration’s online system at https://www.dadegetsgrants.net/letters-of-support-. A copy of the draft letter must also be emailed to Ms. Eva M. Regueira, Executive Director, Grants Administration at emregueira@dadeschools.net.
Please note that M-DCPS will be closed for Spring Break during the week of March 21 to March 25. All requests for Letters of Support must be submitted by Friday, March 4, in order to guarantee the letter will be provided prior to the Spring Break Recess.

READy, Set, Go Miami! Literacy Initiative Looking Taking Off in March
The READy, Set, Go Miami! literacy blitz launches in March, giving community partners and individuals all across the Miami-Dade County an opportunity to register to become a host site of a READy, Set, Go Miami! workshop. The initiative is a month-long community collaboration coordinated by the Miami-Dade Grade Level Reading Campaign (MDGLR) to 1) promote simple early literacy activities in daily routines at home, and 2) highlight the many early childhood resources in our Miami-Dade community that are available year-round!

Communities of Practice- Join a community where members support one another, share best practices and deepen their knowledge. All of the following CoPs are currently being offered virtually and are appropriate for direct service providers and supervisors of Parenting Programs. Parent and Provider Stressors & Barriers - In this CoP, we will discuss the stressors and barriers that both you as a provider, and the families you serve, face.   • Discovering Inclusion - The foundation for all other trainings, an online introduction to children and youth with disabilities. Includes the benefits and characteristics of an inclusive program, and provides practical common-sense information on using respectful language and etiquette.
  • Successful Inclusion of Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder Part 1 - You hear a lot about it, but do you really know what Autism Spectrum Disorder is, and the different ways it appears in different children and youth? Learn the facts, and how to recognize and accommodate those with sensory sensitivities, foster social competence, address bullying, and ensure a safe environment. This online course is a pre-requisite for Successful Inclusion of Children with Autism Spectrum Disorders Part 2.

New Project-Based Learning Online Course from Project RISE *
Participants learn how Project-Based Learning (PBL) can be used to engage youth by connecting them with real-world experiences, motivating them to solve problems in their communities, and exposing youth to a wide range of career options. When YD staff support & guide youth through PBL, their youth participants will have more opportunities to use creativity, learn meaningful skills, practice problem solving, and become leaders. Early Education Internship Opportunity From the Early Learning Coalition
Are you interested in a career working with children from birth to age 5? The Early Education Internship Program offered by the Early Learning Coalition of Miami-Dade/Monroe and CareerSource South Florida provides an opportunity to work in an early learning program, take early education classes and train to become an early educator. The program pays $13.88/hour, runs 12-16 weeks and will help you earn a 45-hour certificate from the Department of Children and Families, as well as a Pre-Child Development Associate (CDA) training certificate. LEGO Foundation’s Build a World of Play Challenge Offers Grants for Transformative Ideas
The Build A World Of Play Challenge is open to organizations worldwide. The Challenge seeks evidence-based, innovative solutions to critical issues, such as access to quality early childhood education and care, adequate nutrition, eradication of toxic stress in homes and communities, reduction of violence in homes and communities, protection from pollution, and supporting the social and emotional well-being of the whole family. Proposed solutions should make a substantial contribution to the lives of children from birth to six years old and spark a global movement to prioritize early childhood development. FREE 6-Week Job Training Program in Banking/Financial Service
Overtown Youth Center is recruiting individuals (18+) to participate in a 6-week job training program. Participation is free and will include interactive classes (Tuesdays, 5-8 p.m., Thursdays, 5-8 p.m.) focused on customer service skills, understanding the banking industry, and interview preparation. FREE Online Homework Help from Teachers for M-DCPS Students
Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS) is offering free homework help exclusively to its K-12 students through Pop N' Prep. The help is provided by certified M-DCPS teaches and is available Mondays through Thursdays, from 4-8 p.m. Session last 20 to 30 minutes and include math, language arts, science, history and more. NBCUniversal's Project Innovation Grants Return for Nonprofits
The Comcast NBCUniversal Foundation and NBCUniversal Local announced the return of their “Project Innovation” competitive grant challenge in 11 markets, including Miami-Fort Lauderdale (WTVJ, WSCV).
Applications can be submitted online between February 18 and March 25 at nbcuprojectinnovation.com or in Spanish at nbcuproyectoinnovacion.com. Grant winners will be announced later this year.

For 2022, $3.475 million in grants to eligible nonprofits in the following four grant categories:
  • Community Engagement: Programs that enable individuals to engage and volunteer in their communities. 
  • Culture of Inclusion: Programs that encourage equitable access, opportunities, and resources for traditionally underrepresented communities. 
  • Next Generation Storytellers: Programs that promote access and develop pathways for emerging talent, diverse voices, and underrepresented youth to explore careers in news, entertainment, sports and the arts. 
  • Youth Education and Empowerment: In-school and out-of-school programs that equip youth with the tools they need to succeed, including STEM/ STEAM education and youth entrepreneurship. 

Key grant eligibility requirements: 501(c)(3) nonprofit’s headquarters and/or the program for which the organization is applying must be located in a participating market, service the market they operate from, have had total expenses of more than $100,000 (defined by the organizations most recent 990 IRS filing), and its programs must help to resolve everyday community issues in any of the four grant categories.

The Institute for Child and Family Health (ICFH) provides mental health services including Individual/family therapy and psychiatry for children and adolescents in Miami-Dade County. The institute accepts most Medicaid HMO’s and has funding for children of low-income families who do not have insurance. ICFH also provides individual/family therapy and psychiatry services for adults who have Medicaid.

Oversees the implementation and compliance of the health, mental health, and disabilities aspects of the program. Assist parents with services for their child, establish partnership agreements with health, mental health, and disability providers, track referrals, follow-up, evaluations, re-evaluations, and all relevant meetings, etc. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in Science, Nursing, Health Administration, Social Work, Psychology. This is general lifesaving work involving the preservation of safety and order at a municipal swimming pool.
