Planting a Forest -- One Test Drive at a Time
Carter Subaru Shoreline and Carter Subaru Ballard, both Subaru Eco-Friendly Retailers located in the Seattle, WA area, are proud participants, in partnership with Mountains to Sound Greenway Trust, in a Carbon Neutral Program which provides for the planting of trees in the Mountains to Sound Greenway, a 100-mile corridor from Ellensburg (in central Washington) to the Seattle waterfront (near Puget Sound) -- quite literally from mountains to sound!
The video below describes the importance of maintaining, and supporting the growth of, native trees in this area.
"Native trees are critical to the health of the Pacific Northwest and the Puget Sound region. Trees improve air quality and reduce greenhouse gases; shade creeks and streams, cooling water for threatened salmon; reduce erosion and filter pollutants, improving water quality and providing important wildlife habitat."

Since 2008, Carter Subaru, in conjunction with Mountains to Sound Greenway Trust, has planted over 225,000 native trees in the Greenway. For every test drive taken at either Carter Subaru location, Carter Subaru will plant one tree. For each vehicle purchased at either location, Carter will plant three more trees. Those four trees, each with a lifespan of about 75 years, will absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, in an amount equivalent to the carbon dioxide emissions from one vehicle driven for one year.

Both Carter Subaru and those involved in the tree-planting efforts are enthusiastic about the project and its environmental effect. See what they have to say in the video below.

It's a team effort at Carter Subaru! Employees and their families all participated at the Mountains to Sound Greenway tree-planting event on October 22 last fall. And everyone gets a shovel!

Dave Wright NIssan Subaru in Hiawatha, IA, encourages their customers to recycle used oil and car batteries. On the first Thursday of each month, customers can bring in these items to be disposed of properly, in an eco-friendly manner.
Customers just need to drive up in the service lane and ask for a Service Advisor. That's all there is to it, from the customer's standpoint!
Thanks, Dave Wright Subaru, for offering this recycling service to your customers. You make it easy for them to do their part in preserving the environment!

Plastic Pollution in the Ocean
From Here to There...to Where??
To "Where" is Easter Island, a 64-square mile island in the South Pacific Ocean, lying 2300 miles from the west coast of Chile, and Easter Island has a problem -- a BIG problem -- with plastics pollution! A ton of plastic washes ashore each month.
With Earth Day coming up on April 22, now is the time to review trash disposal and recycling protocols at your retailer location. If you are not putting forth your best effort in these areas, please rethink your policies and procedures and make the necessary changes to maximize your endeavors.
Subaru retailers are very eco-conscious about the importance of recycling, and we applaud all of you for your efforts. Continue to keep in mind the detrimental effects of throw-away trash. A plastic bottle, carelessly tossed aside in the United States (whether in the north or south or east or west, or central or coastal), can end up in a stream, which flows into a river, which flows into an ocean. And from there, who can tell how far it will travel! As the plastic degrades, it becomes even more difficult to detect and remove. Therefore, it is of the utmost importance to ensure that it's properly recycled in the first place, so that it never makes its way inro our water sources.

Good Morning America recently featured a segment concerning the plastics pollution problem at Easter Island. Click here to watch.
"When things are thrown away, they don’t just disappear. All trash ends up somewhere." And if we are not careful and considerate about where we throw that trash, that "somewhere" can be in the ocean and that trash can travel, due to the numerous ocean currents, not only to Easter Island, but all around the world.
