Pedestrian & Bicycle Roadway Design

There are numerous safety challenges in accommodating pedestrians & bicyclists on our roadways. During this presentation, we will discuss safety improvements and countermeasures to improve pedestrian & bicyclist safety along the road and at intersections.

Join us at 9:00 am EST on the 2nd Wednesday of each month for a free, one-hour webinar. The presentation will follow two tracks: Leadership and Transportation. Participants will receive one professional development hour. These trainings are approved by the Department of Local Government for the County Officials Program.

Join us on the 4th Wednesday of each month for free webinars that will cover job-specific information as well as general safety topics. Road Safety Champions focus on doing their job safely, and we will provide you the tools to feel confident in promoting safety in any workplace. With diverse courses in maintenance, construction, engineering, and more, you will find one or many opportunities to learn. Complete the program requirements and you can earn a Road Safety Champion certificate.

Road Safety Champion - Low Cost Safety Measures


March 23


9:00am -11:00am EST

This workshop shows participants ways to reduce fatalities and injuries caused by road departures and collisions with fixed objects, as well as collisions at rural intersections. The course also addresses measures to improve pedestrian safety. Included are examples of low-cost maintenance and safety improvements on roads and the historical differences between state road systems and local road systems.

Bryan Sanders grew up outside Baltimore, Maryland and later settled down in Central Kentucky.  In 2007, he graduated with an Associate’s Degree in Computer Graphic Design and began a successful freelance art career. Bryan's artwork has been printed in both local and national publications, journals, websites, and magazines. He was a weekly editorial cartoonist for two local papers and radio producer for over 5 radio stations in central Kentucky. He is also a self-published artist and author, printing over 5,000 comic books since 2007.  Over the last 20 years, he has worked on dozens of local and national video productions. He has directed, shot, edited, produced, and starred in over a dozen feature films and short films. His work can be found on the SyFy Channel, Netflix, Redbox, Walmart, and Target.

Outside of work, Bryan enjoys playing video games, working on his two classic cars, and spending time with family and friends.  He regularly attends local car shows and media events with his mint condition 1976 Mercury Cougar XR7 and 1994 Z28 Chevy Camaro.

Past winners for Kentucky include a Snow Plow Handler submitted by Marshall County and a Spray Bar submitted by Kenton County.


The winner for Kentucky will be elevated to compete for

national recognition.

Apply for the Michelle Adams Memorial Scholarship


This $1000 scholarship is available to a student who:

  • is an incoming freshman enrolled full time at the University of Kentucky; 
  • is the son or daughter of either an attendee of the Kentucky Transportation Center Snow & Ice Removal course or any public works employee in the state of Kentucky; and
  • demonstrates financial need.
