Dear Friends,
It seems that the Supreme Court is willing to discriminate against our Trans community, even without hearing testimony and the legal briefs that normally come with such cases. Here is the statement from our partners at Equality California that offers some important clarifications about the California Safety Act:
Equality California Statement on U.S. Supreme Court Decision Undermining Protections for Transgender Students
SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Equality California, the nation’s largest statewide LGBTQ+ civil rights organization, released the following statement from Executive Director Tony Hoang in response to today’s U.S. Supreme Court shadow docket ruling in Mirabelli v. Bonta regarding California’s student privacy protections for transgender youth:
“Today’s decision by the U.S. Supreme Court to intervene in this case is deeply disturbing. By stepping in on an emergency basis, the Court has effectively upended California’s student privacy protections without hearing full arguments and before the judicial process has run its course. While not surprising, this move reflects a dangerous willingness to short-circuit the established judicial process to dismantle protections for transgender youth.
While this case continues to be litigated, the ruling revives Judge Benitez’s prior decision, which broadly targets numerous California laws protecting transgender and gender-nonconforming students — threatening critical safeguards that prevent forced outing and allow educators to respect a student’s affirmed name and pronouns at school. These protections exist for one reason: to keep students safe and ensure schools remain places where young people can learn and thrive without fear.
To be clear — today’s decision does not impact California’s SAFETY Act, which prohibits school districts from adopting policies that forcibly out transgender students. The SAFETY Act remains in full effect, and we will continue defending it.
Transgender youth deserve dignity, safety, and the freedom to learn without fear. We will never stop fighting for transgender youth and their families. Equality California will continue working with parents, educators, and advocates to ensure schools remain safe, welcoming, and focused on the success and well-being of every student.”
###
Equality California is the nation’s largest statewide LGBTQ+ civil rights organization. We bring the voices of LGBTQ+ people and allies to institutions of power in California and across the United States, striving to create a world that is healthy, just, and fully equal for all LGBTQ+ people. We advance civil rights and social justice by inspiring, advocating, and mobilizing through an inclusive movement that works tirelessly on behalf of those we serve. www.eqca.org

Can you spare a few dollars to help keep the Center open during these trying times? LGBTQIA2S+ Centers across the state are experiencing a drop in donations, and your support is crucial to help us continue delivering the life-saving services our community depends on. We've even put all of our donation and Pride links in the same place above!
We are recognizing that the uncertainty since Trump returned to office has definitely affected giving for our life-sustaining programs. If you are in a place to share financially right now, we definitely need your help right now. You can even set up a monthly donation of as little as $5 a month, which helps us more than you can know.
If you are giving to our General Fund to support all of our programming, you can give through our portal on Zeffy at https://tinyurl.com/Give2SolanoPride. Or, you can check out our new Donations Page, with links to Pride Sponsorships, and Regular Giving here: https://www.zeffy.com/en-US/organizations/solano-pride-center. Donate today!

Stephan's Corner
Hello Solano Pride!
On Sunday we had our first annual Spring into Pride fundraising dinner. Our hope is that we can continue this event every year to help SPC stay up and running with free content and mental health support.
Thank you all who participated, from volunteers, staff, board members, Back Road Vines itself, and to all who attended and donated.
I found the event to be very nice, intimate, comfortable, entertaining and delicious. The environment of the venue is so beautiful and quiet. It was a nice way to reconnect after all of the holidays and cold weather.
If you didn’t get to join us, we hope to see you next year around the same time!
Until then, check out our calendar of upcoming social events, and come on down!

Special SPC Poetry & Writing Anthology Benefit Project Announced! Call for submissions extended to March 15th, 2026.
It was a dark and stormy night
When at my desk I began to write
Of things poetic and such
And things that might impress me much. (apologies to Shania Twain)
Of talents wasted or quite unknown
Of slighted authors we bemoan
Yet, what light thru yonder window gleams?
Groupings of stories, prose, and poems, it seems.
Solano Pride doth beg your submission
With cheery smile and signed permission
To share your works for published glory
Be they sweet or silly or even gory
Make haste to share your treasured text
With brains afire and muscles flexed
They be due by end of next January
So send them to us and do not tarry!
M. West

Coping with Loss and Grief.
Grief has no set boundaries. Grief comes in many different avenues such as losing a spouse, parents, a sibling, your pet, the loss of a friend or a friendship, even the loss of a job can cause us to grieve.
This new group will continue Friday, March 13th & 27th from 10 - 11:30 am on zoom. The next gathering would be April 10th, also online.
The way in which we cope with the loss is the way in which we begin to heal and move forward with our lives no matter the depth of pain and sorrow we are in. One way and there are many depending on how one copes with the loss is to talk about what we are feeling, what we are going through and share those feelings and thoughts with others who may be experiencing the same just as you are. The grief counseling session is an avenue for people to continue their healing process. More info, including the zoom link, at Kacen@solanopride.org or Tim Meyers at tjm1756@yahoo.com.

Like in Love with You: a novel
by Emma R. Alban
Mean Girls meets Northanger Abbey in this sharp and sexy Regency Romance that begs the question: what if Cady and Regina just… kissed?
When Catherine Pine relocates to Bath in 1817, she comes face-to-face with her mother’s arch nemesis and her daughter—the wildly popular Lady Rosalie. Twenty-five years after a horrible betrayal, Catherine’s mother sees the perfect opportunity for revenge: Catherine must win the favor of Lady Rosalie’s suitor and unofficial betrothed, the most eligible Mr. Dean.
Only Catherine soon discovers that Lady Rosalie is by far the wittiest, cleverest, most intriguing young woman Catherine’s ever met, and she’s instantly smitten. Which is a problem.
Meanwhile, Lady Rosalie feels trapped in her relationship with Mr. Dean and in her role as Bath’s resident mean girl. But when she notices newcomer Catherine gunning for her spot as queen bee, Rosalie finally feels a spark again–something she absolutely doesn’t want to extinguish.
As Rosalie and Catherine circle Mr. Dean, and their mothers force them into increasingly absurd contests of wit and feminine charms, the two women somehow find themselves falling for each other, scheme, by barb, by catty jab…. Is it possible that their sizzling rivalry can become a match to last? Link.

Registration is officially open for the 40th annual AIDS Walk San Francisco!
For four decades, our community has come together to walk in solidarity, remembrance, and hope. Since our very first steps in 1987, AIDS Walk San Francisco has raised critical funds for HIV prevention, care, and support services across the Bay Area. Generations of walkers, team captains, volunteers, and advocates have built this movement. We have only been able to achieve all of our successes, including raising over $100 million throughout the years, because of participants like you.
Now, in our 40th year, we are preparing to honor that legacy and want you to join us along the way.
We remember the early years, when fear and stigma were everywhere but our community showed up anyway. We celebrate the progress made through activism, research, and compassion. And we recommit ourselves to the work ahead because, as we know, the fight to end HIV is not over.
Join us as we return to Golden Gate Park to mark this powerful milestone together. Whether you walked in the early days, joined us somewhere along the way, or are returning after time away, this anniversary belongs to all of us.
Register today to celebrate 40 years of impact and activism, honor the lives lost and uplift those living with HIV/AIDS, reconnect with a community built on resilience, and help us launch the next chapter of progress.
Register today, start your team, and let’s make the 40th Annual AIDS Walk San Francisco one for the history books!
We can't wait to see you in Golden Gate Park on Sunday, July 19!

No Kings 3 Protests: Save the date, Saturday, March 28th.
see more at https://www.solanopride.org/protests-advocacy/
From Indivisible: "On March 28 we'll take to the streets, ready to bring millions of new allies along with us to declare, in one voice: NO thugs terrorizing our neighborhoods. NO troop deployments in our streets. NO imperial wars of conquest. NO KINGS."
Here are 3 things you can do between now and March 28:
1. SIGN UP NOW to get an alert when the No Kings map is live, so you can find a rally near you: https://www.nokings.org/
2. JOIN AN "EYES ON ICE" TRAINING: Learn how to exercise your rights, document and record ICE and other federal agents when they terrorize our communities and use excessive force: https://www.mobilize.us/indivisible/event/892452/
3. DONATE if you can. Organizing No Kings is a major undertaking, with millions of participants and thousands of local events that require lot of grassroots support. If you're in a position to contribute to the effort, chip in now: https://secure.actblue.com/donate/nokings-2026
Trump wants to rule like a king. But we the people refuse to cower in the face of his cruelty. This country doesn't bow down to tyrants. We sure as hell won't bow down to the wretched ghouls who kidnap children, teargas schools, and murder our neighbors then slander them as domestic terrorists. No thugs. No thrones. No crowns. NO KINGS!

On Monday night, we joined our partners at the Los Angeles LGBT Center to co-host California’s first-ever LGBTQ+-focused gubernatorial forum, Centering Equality, at the Center’s beautiful Renberg Theater.
We asked questions about the issues that impact our community the most — healthcare access, housing, youth safety — and candidates rated themselves on their past and current efforts to support California’s diverse LGBTQ+ population.
(Want to see a full event replay? Click here to watch on YouTube!)
We’re able to produce important events like this forum because of members like you. Can you give today to help us continue the work of keeping LGBTQ+ people politically informed and motivating them to get out the vote?
Over two hours, seven leading candidates answered questions and pitched themselves as an ideal choice for California’s top executive. Not only did we pack the Renberg, we had an impressive virtual audience thanks to a livestream collaboration with NBCLA and Telemundo 52.
California’s next governor must be willing to address the very real needs of LGBTQ+ people, which means keeping people informed. Equality California is on track to make more endorsements and do more voter education than ever before this cycle — be part of making those efforts possible!
Most importantly, stay involved, stay informed, and vote in the California Primary (June 2) and November’s general midterm election (November 3)!
Thanks,
— Tony

Are you a student who is a certified policy wonk? Do you want to be part of the day-to-day happenings in state government? Ever seen an episode of The West Wing and thought, "I'd like to do one of those walk-and-talks?"
Well, I’ve got great news — applications for the 2026 Comcast Legislative Fellowship are now open!
Through a generous grant from the Comcast Foundation and in partnership with the California Legislative LGBTQ Caucus, Equality California Institute sponsors a five-week intensive in-person fellowship program each year for six (6) students who have completed at least one year of undergraduate studies at college or university.
Want to spend part of your summer in Sacramento learning the inner workings of the legislature (or know someone this would be a perfect opportunity for)? Apply today!
If chosen, you’ll serve as a fellow in the office of a state legislator and receive hands-on experience in policymaking and issues-based organizing, with access to mentors to support your work.
The fellowship runs from June 8 to July 10, 2026 in Sacramento. Fellows will receive housing and a $5,000 stipend. Please note this is an intensive five-week program with a tightly scheduled calendar.
Applications are open until March 18 — submit your materials ASAP!

LEAs Study
We’re inviting young adults living in California to take part in a research study exploring how structural conditions—such as policies, access to resources, and experiences of stigma within different communities—shape alcohol use and other drug use. By better understanding these experiences, this study aims to inform future interventions, including potential policy and systems-level changes that improve access to care and support community health.
This is a paid, fully online study taking place over approximately two weeks. Participants will complete:
One initial online survey (about 30 minutes), and
A brief daily online survey (about 5 minutes each) for 14 days.
Your participation will help elevate real community experiences and contribute to research that can drive meaningful, supportive change. For more information, visit: criticalpublichealth.org/leas/

March 10: National Women & Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day: The Office on Women’s Health (OWH) in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services leads National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day (#NWGHAAD).
In the United States, about 23% of people living with HIV are women and, in 2021, women made up 20 percent of new diagnoses, according to CDC data. The highest number of new diagnoses were among women ages 25 to 44. Advances in testing, treatment, and prevention have resulted in progress toward the nation’s goal to end the HIV epidemic by 2030.
The theme for NWGHAAD 2025 is: “Hope, Health, and Healing: Overcoming Barriers to HIV/AIDS Treatment for Women and Girls.” NWGHAAD focuses efforts on priority populations outlined in the NHAS including Black women and youth aged 13-24 years.
You can learn more and find additional resources from OWH here. View additional data for women and girls through the AHEAD dashboard here.

Bisexual Health Awareness Month, held every March and founded by the
Bisexual Resource Center in 2014, highlights the specific physical, mental, and social disparities faced by the bi+ community. The 2026 campaign, "Claiming the Right to Care," focuses on improving access to, and reducing stigma within, healthcare services.
Key details regarding the annual awareness campaign include:
· Focus & Goals: The initiative aims to raise awareness of the unique health disparities affecting bisexual, pansexual, fluid, and queer (bi+) people, such as higher rates of depression, anxiety, and, in some cases, worse physical health outcomes compared to monosexual peers.
· 2026 Theme: "Claiming the Right to Care as Bi+ People" focuses on patient agency, healthcare literacy, and reducing the need for patients to educate providers.
· Key Issues: The campaign highlights issues like biphobia, stigma, and invisibility in healthcare settings.
· Action & Advocacy: It encourages creating affirming, inclusive, and informed care for bi+ individuals.

The National Coalition for LGBTQ Health announces that the theme for this year’s National LGBTQ Health Awareness Week, being held March 16 – 20, 2026, is “Organize to OUTlast.” The theme calls on the LGBTQ community and those who provide healthcare for LGBTQ communities to organize for LGBTQ health against regressive forces in policy and culture. The Coalition created the National LGBTQ Health Awareness Week 24 years ago to raise awareness about timely and relevant issues impacting LGBTQ healthcare.
We urge healthcare professionals, advocates, and community leaders to collaborate on building strategies, skills, resources, and support structures that continue to foster health equity amid divestment and fragmentation of the broader healthcare system. By organizing within and across communities to protect advances in LGBTQ health, we will outlast the attempts to erase our progress. Organize to OUTlast assures us that together, the LGBTQ community and LGBTQ health services will survive, thrive, and persevere through these challenging times and beyond.

International Transgender Day of Visibility (March 31st): International Transgender Day of Visibility is an annual holiday occurring on March 31 dedicated to celebrating transgender people and raising awareness of discrimination faced by transgender people worldwide. The holiday was founded by Michigan-based transgender activist Rachel Crandall in 2009 as a reaction to the lack of LGBT holidays celebrating transgender people, citing the frustration that the only well-known transgender-centered holiday was the Transgender Day of Remembrance which mourned the loss of transgender people to hate crimes, but did not acknowledge and celebrate living members of the transgender community.
