Greetings,
As Women’s History Month draws to a close, we’re feeling especially grateful for the lineage of incredible women who have boldly contributed to the fight for racial, economic, social, and gender justice. We know that women are always the most deeply impacted by systemic oppression, and thus, women have been at the helm of many movements for change — with or without the recognition they deserved.
We know that although women earn only a fraction of every dollar made by men, they reinvest more of their income back into their communities. We know that when we support women, we uplift families and communities in the process.
We’re dedicated to creating a world where access and opportunity truly exist for all. Often, our trans sisters do not receive the celebration and support they deserve during Women’s History Month. This is especially harmful at a time when transwomen’s rights and safety are under attack. Over 300 anti-LGBTQIA+ bills have been introduced in state legislatures this year alone, and nearly half of them target transgender people specifically. We do not accept a world where the safety and freedom of some women are valued more than others. We know that none of us are free until we all are free.
Supporting progressive grassroots organizations led by women and gender-expansive individuals is vital to ensuring a future rooted in justice and liberation for us all. Learn more about our grantees here, and read on for ways you can support women and gender-expansive individuals in Greater Boston today.
In Solidarity,
- Natanja Craig Oquendo

“If this world is going to get its act together, they have to support and put in the front to lead this revolution the people who are the most oppressed, which is my Black transgender community.”

Women's History Month:
Grassroot Giants
|
|
Wherever a community movement exists, women and gender-expansive people are at the helm. This Women’s History Month, we’ll be shining a light on some of Boston’s “grassroots giants.”
The women in this series represent Boston's rich history of movement building and organizing led by and for women, girls, and gender-expansive individuals. Their local and national contributions continue to live out into the present and uplift today’s community leaders. We stand on the shoulders of giants and are honored to celebrate their leadership this month.
In case you missed it, check out the “grassroot giants” we’ve highlighted this month on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter, and stay tuned for more.
Happy Women’s History Month!
