Open Space Preserved in Kingwood Township

Preserved land along Lockatong Creek (above) has been expanded.

Hunterdon Land Trust is excited to share that 12 acres of land along the Lockatong Creek in Kingwood Township has been preserved! The property owner of 214 Federal Twist Road reached out to HLT for assistance in preserving his property. HLT contacted the NJ Green Acres Program, and the State of New Jersey acquired the property to enlarge the Lockatong Wildlife Management Area, which is open to the public. Lockatong Creek is a Category-1 stream and a tributary of the Delaware River. Preserving land along Category-1 streams enhances water quality, reduces flooding, and protects critical wildlife habitat.

We are grateful for support of land acquisition in the Delaware River watershed by the National Park Service's Lower Delaware Wild & Scenic River Program, which aims to protect the natural, cultural, and historic values of the Delaware River.

Save the Date and Call for Artists - Wine & Art at the Farm

HLT is excited to announce the return of Wine and Art at the Farm. This fundraising event will feature local art on display in our rustic wagon house and restored bank barn. Save the Date for our reception on Friday, June 20th at 5:30-8:30 PM for a fun evening of light bites, wine, music, and art. We invite artists to apply now.

Spring Outdoor Programs

Sold Out
Register: Community Science

Spot are filling up quickly for our spring programs! While our March 15th Naturalist Walk is sold out, there is still space available for our April community science program.

Saturday, April 5th: Learn how to use apps on your phone to identify local flora and fauna. HLT’s Director of Stewardship & Digital Media, Emily Dunn, will provide a hands-on introduction to eBird, Merlin Bird ID, and iNaturalist – tools that allow you to identify and document the natural world. We will then take a short hike around the Dvoor Farm to practice using these apps!

This event is free but space is limited - we ask that you RSVP to save your spot. Visit the events page on our website to register.

We are grateful for support of these programs by the National Park Service's Lower Delaware Wild & Scenic River Program, which aims to protect the natural, cultural, and historic values of the Delaware River.

Volunteer Opportunities

Mark your calendar for these volunteer events!

April 12th, 9 AM-12 PM: Stewardship Saturday at Idell Preserve (RSVP)

Join our stewardship team to plant native trees! We will be planting seedlings in areas along the trail where extensive invasive species removal was completed last year and protecting these new trees with exclosures. Bring a shovel, gloves, and clippers if you have them.

May 16th, 2-5 PM: Stewardship Friday at Dvoor Farm (RSVP)

Join us for a Friday afternoon of caring for the young trees in the stream corridor at Dvoor Farm! We will be cleaning out and fixing up tree cages to ensure their long-term success.

Ceiling Improvements at Dvoor Farmhouse

Thanks to the New Jersey Cultural Trust's Capital Historic Preservation Grant funding, HLT repaired the plaster ceilings on the second floor of the Dvoor Farmhouse last week. Paint was removed down to the original plaster, which was then reattached to lath along cracks that had formed over the years. A final step was the application of an historically compatible coating. Additional thanks to the New Jersey Historic Trust for their technical oversight.

Become a 2025 Partner in Preservation

Support HLT’s mission by participating in our 2025 Partner in Preservation Business Sponsorship Program and show the public how you care about the preservation of forests, farms, and waterways in our region.

HLT is a non-profit conservation organization founded in 1996 to preserve and protect the natural resources of Hunterdon County. To date, we have preserved over 12,000 acres of forests, family farms, and streams and manage 8 nature preserves. Our headquarters is located in the heart of Hunterdon County at the Dvoor Farm which is an iconic landmark with historic buildings and acres of peaceful natural surroundings. It is also the location of the seasonal Hunterdon Community Farmers Market on Sundays.

Your sponsorship offers your business the opportunities listed here to align with the mission of preserving open space and farmland, stewardship of natural resources, and cultivation of Dvoor Farm as a center for inspiration, education, and connection.
