STAND AGAINST RACISM
APRIL 2017
This April marks YWCA's 10th annual Stand Against Racism, and this year, we are focused on a very important theme: Women of Color Leading Change. Despite outpacing other groups in college education, leading social progress since the very beginning, and often being the primary breadwinner in their households, women of color are consistently underrepresented in positions of leadership. But we know that when women of color lead, positive change happens and everyone is lifted up!

Join us and take a Stand Against Racism. You can register, take the Stand Against Racism pledge, and find an event near you-all for free! Learn more at  http://standagainstracism.org/

WHAT WE'VE BEEN UP TO @ THE YW
YWCA USA SUPPORTS NATIONAL
"DAY WITHOUT A WOMAN"

Excerpt from YWCA National Blog:

YWCA USA supports the continued work and activism taking place to protect the rights of women and girls in our country, especially those who are most marginalized. We recognize and support "A Day Without A Woman" as an opportunity to speak in one voice for the rights of women, speak out for gender equality in the workforce, and highlight the critical role that women play in our economy. Together we can raise awareness about policies that perpetrate oppression and highlight the reality that our economy is reliant on the labor of women.

YWCA MIAMI CENTERS PROMOTE LITERACY
Throughout our sites you will see pictures, hear teachers and parents reading some of the children favorite stories like, " The Cat In The Hat" "One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish" and "Green Eggs and Ham." We will also enjoy green eggs while learning about colors. Please come in and share your favorite Dr. Seuss story and/or ideas with your child's class.

Research today shows that talking, reading, or singing with young children every day throughout the day helps build important connections in the brain that can change their lives forever. Engage young children in conversation, and aid in healthy brain development.
