This workshop will help participants understand the transition process, to be an active member of the transition team, to understand the difference between services in CPSE and CSE, and to understand the purpose of an Individualized Education Program (IEP). Participants will come away from this workshop with a better understanding of what to expect as their preschoolers move on to kindergarten.

Agency 101: Connecting Individuals with Disabilities to Adult Services

Parents, guardians, family members, and community providers will be provided a general overview of primary adult services. Participants will learn to recognize the eight components of self-determination and will better understand how to promote self-determination throughout the transition planning process. Participants will learn about the various adult service agencies in NYS and will better understand the services provided by each, as well as their related eligibility, referral, and application process.

Early Intervention (EI) to Committee on Preschool Special Education (CPSE) Transition for Families

This training will help families understand and identify the important steps in the transition process from EI to CPSE as well as the changes to expect and critical decisions to be made. This session will take a detailed look at the similarities and differences between Early Intervention and Preschool Special Education Programs in New York State. Participants will be well prepared for their child's transition to preschool special education and will have a better understanding of their role in the process.

Training of the Parent Member of the Committee on Preschool Education (CPSE) and Committee on Special Education (CSE)

This training will provide participants with a better understanding of the role and the requirements of the Parent Member and the Special Education Process as per the Part 200 Regulations of the Commissioner of Education. Participants will learn techniques and strategies to become an effective participant in the CPSE/CSE process.

This training is for current and prospective parent members and anyone who is interested in gaining a better understanding of the parent member role and/or the CPSE and CSE process.

Parent and Family Engagement in the Functional Behavioral Assessment (FBA) and Behavioral Intervention Plan (BIP) Process

April 13, 2022 @ 1:00PM-3:00PM
Parents, families, guardians, and others in the community will gain an understanding of:  
-the definition of an FBA/BIP;
-when one or both are needed;
-how an FBA is conducted and a BIP
is developed; and 
-the role they play as part of the
various teams.  
Participants will also understand how the FBA/BIP process is part of the Committee for Preschool Special Education (CPSE)/Committee for Special Education (CSE) process, as well as the guidance regarding the New York State (NYS) Regulations of the Commissioner of Education, Part 200.
