Kaleidoscope is the second in a series of exhibitions marking FAM's Centennial, and features hundreds of artworks from our permanent collection, ranging across the globe, human history, and artistic media and movements.
Kaleidoscope juxtaposes old favorites, new acquisitions, and rarely before seen artwork, allowing visitors to create their own visual, psychological, and intellectual meanings.

Tara Sellios's photographs highlight the beauty of the grotesque. Sellios creates still-life vignettes from organic materials, including animal bones, insect specimens, and dried flowers, which she photographs using a large format camera. Printed at a grand scale, Sellios’s photographs capture the vivid details of her materials.

Jean Borgatti, Consulting Curator for African, Oceanic, & First Peoples Art, will lead a guided tour of FESTIVAL: A Celebration of African Art at the Fitchburg Art Museum. Borgatti will speak about the works that distinguish FAM’s African Art collection and how objects have come into the collection over time.

Artist Daniela Rivera views the works of art in Kaleidoscope: 100 Years of Collecting for Our Community as amplifying one another in a lively dialogue. Through Rivera’s eyes, learn how artworks spanning across time and artistic movements create both dissonance and harmony in the gallery. Rivera will also speak about her drawing on view in the exhibition and how it fits into FAM’s history of collecting.

Drop in between 11 AM – 2 PM
Join us for free drop-in artmaking in the Art Place on Elm Studio, led by a FAM educator. Get inspired by artwork in our exhibitions, then create your own to take home! All ages are welcome and no experience is necessary. No sign-up is required to attend.
In this month’s Make Art @ FAM program, use paint and collage materials to create art that explores a sense of place! This program is based on the exhibition Kaleidoscope: 100 Years of Collecting for Our Community.

Hidden Treasures is a free art program designed to support and engage individuals with the early to middle stages of Alzheimer’s disease or other forms of dementia, along with their care partners, or family members. A picture is worth a thousand of your words! Artist Sandy Litchfield will guide you through a creative writing process to weave together stories inspired from the works of art in Kaleidoscope: 100 Years of Collecting for Our Community, which includes one of Sandy's own paintings! Come relax in this exploratory and collaborative program, designed for adults and youth ages 8 and up.

Openest Mic has partnered with FAM at Night to present Words from the Burg, a popular poetry reading event hosted by local arts organizer, Laura DiCaronimo. Featured “local-ish” poets will include: Zak Bos, Sara Afshar, Paula Giaquinto, and John Keough. This free community programming is open to all and will take place in The George R. Wallace III Gallery.

This month’s exhibition displays artwork created by Fitchburg Public School students in the Spring 2026 session of the Afterschool Art Program.
Fitchburg Art Museum and Fitchburg Public Schools After School Partnership Program:
Twice weekly, Longsjo Middle School students visit the Museum galleries to explore current exhibitions. Then they head to the Art Place on Elm art studio for some hands-on art making activities. Program content and themes are inspired by the Museum's exhibitions.
The Community Gallery is supported by a grant from Dr. Roderick and Donna Lewin.
