SHOREWOOD READS PROGRAMMING BEGINS THIS MONTH
|
|
It’s easy to notice the essential role that staff play in library operations. They check out your materials, answer your questions on the phone and help you at the public computers. It’s not as easy to notice the Library Board, a group of dedicated volunteers who also play a vital role in running the library.
Seven Shorewood residents serve as Library Board trustees. They develop and approve all library policies, approve the budget, and help formulate and execute the library’s strategic plan. They provide support to the Library Director, serve as unwavering advocates for public library values and aim to represent the variety of community perspectives as they form policies and priorities.
I want to express my deep gratitude for the commitment of our current trustees. Their support of the library staff and community, particularly during these years of evolving and pivoting library services, has been exemplary and compassionate.
Thank you, trustees!
Alex Handelsman, President
Donna Whittle, Secretary
Leslie Cooley
Elvira Craig de Silva
Alexandra Dimitroff
Jonathan Smucker
JoAnn Sternke, Superintendent of the Shorewood School District
If you are interested in serving as a Library Board trustee or on another village citizen committee, please complete this application and/or reach out to me via email.

MEETING ROOMS OPEN MARCH 1ST
|
We are excited to once again open our meeting rooms to the public for use! A few important changes have taken place since our meeting rooms were last open to the public in 2020, including reduced room capacities and the implementation of our new reservation software, LocalHop.
Anyone making a reservation will need to create a LocalHop account, which should be used for all future reservations for your group. We encourage you to review our meeting room policy, as well as the instructions for using LocalHop or the tutorial video before making your first reservation. We look forward to seeing you soon!

This past month, the library has introduced two new databases for our patrons to use: ConsumerReports.org and AtoZdatabases. Shorewood Library cardholders can access both of these resources from home, and anyone can access them from inside the library.
ConsumerReports.org provides articles on health, public safety, marketplace economics and the judicial & regulatory actions that affect consumers, as well as product ratings and reviews, and you can access the database from our website HERE.
AtoZdatabases can help you find and apply for job opportunities, refresh your resume with their available templates, search for friends' and relatives' addresses and phone numbers, locate local business information, and much more. You can access AtoZdatabases from our website HERE.

Written by fellow librarian Eva Jurczyk, this novel follows Assistant Library Director Liesl Weiss as she is called back from sabbatical and confronted with the mystery of several missing rare books. A missing librarian soon follows, and Liesl is forced to investigate her coworkers as suspects. Many readers will resonate with Liesl's building frustration as seemingly everyone around her questions her judgement while Jurczyk provides an intimate view of the library's innermost secrets. This is a captivating read for librarians and library-lovers alike!

Duchess Goldblatt, though not a real person, is a highly funny and insightful Twitter persona created by the anonymous author who tells her story in this part-memoir, part-tale of a romp through the heights of social media fame. Duchess Goldblatt's tweets are interspersed through the author's story of the trying times that surrounded the character's creation and development.
One of my favorite quotes from the tale includes, "I keep a silver bowl full of emails by the front door. Anyone who tries to pop in for a visit has to take a bag of them for the ride home."

After a chance encounter when actor Ryan Kwok accidentally destroys an entire tray of bakery owner Lindsay McLeod’s famous matcha-tiramisu donuts, the two are brought back together when Lindsay reluctantly agrees to help Ryan prepare for a role on a celebrity baking show. Lau’s characters are well-rounded and complex as they navigate fame, grief, and challenging family dynamics. This romantic comedy doesn’t shy away from deeper discussions of Asian American media representation, mental health, and the loss of a parent, making for an emotional but sweet romantic read.

INFORMATION YOU CAN TRUST
|
With so many sources for information, it can be hard to sort out fact from fiction and to determine who to trust.
The Wisconsin Department of Health Services webpage has up-to-date information about the COVID-19 pandemic including data about vaccinations, who is eligible, and where to get a vaccine.
