The Food Bank of Manatee
K-Kids Visit The Food Bank of Manatee & Meals on Wheels PLUS
We were thrilled to welcome a very special group of young community leaders—the K-Kids—to The Food Bank of Manatee and Meals on Wheels PLUS! These amazing students recently held a school-wide food drive, collecting donations to help feed families in need. Their visit gave them the chance to see exactly where their generosity goes and how their hard work makes a real difference.
During their tour, the K-Kids explored The Food Bank warehouse, learned how food is sorted, stored, and distributed, and even watched volunteers in action. They were amazed to discover how their contributions become part of thousands of meals that support children, seniors, and families across Manatee County.
The highlight of the visit was watching their faces light up when they realized:
“We helped do this!” By seeing the impact firsthand, the students gained an even deeper appreciation for service, kindness, and community involvement. Their excitement, curiosity, and pride were inspiring to all of us.
We are incredibly proud of these young leaders for stepping up to fight hunger and support their neighbors. Their compassion proves that making a difference has no age limit. Thank you, K-Kids, for showing us what the power of teamwork—and big hearts—can do!

Home-delivered Meals
How Home-Delivered Meals Volunteers Change Lives- Including Their Own
At our own volunteer networking events, we’ve had the joy of meeting people from across the country who now call Manatee County home. They tell us stories about their time volunteering with Meals on Wheels programs in other states—how they built relationships, saw firsthand the difference a warm meal makes, and discovered a calling in serving others.
Again and again, these volunteers share the same sentiment: “It feels good to make someone’s day—and often, they make mine.” Whether they moved here from Colorado, Ohio, New York, or anywhere in between, their love for service connects them instantly with our mission and with each other. These events remind us how universal compassion is—and how Meals on Wheels volunteers form a nationwide network of kindness.
Home-Delivered Meals volunteers frequently tell us they treasure the bonds formed with the clients on their routes. A warm hello, a quick check-in, a shared smile—these moments mean the world, especially for seniors experiencing isolation.
And the impact goes both ways. Volunteers often speak about how these connections enrich their own lives, offering:
- A deeper sense of community
- Gratitude for life’s simple blessings
- Purpose in their weekly routines
- Joy from brightening someone’s day
This small yet powerful act of kindness creates lasting change—not just for the recipients, but for the volunteers who step up to serve.
Our annual volunteer luncheon is coming up in April. Due to limited space, volunteers who gave 65+ hours of service in 2025 will receive an invitation to attend. This special
event is our way of saying thank you for your extraordinary commitment. Your time, energy, and compassion fuel every meal we deliver and every life we touch.
We look forward to celebrating your generosity, hearing more of your stories, and recognizing the incredible impact you make—both within our community and as part of a national movement of Meals on Wheels volunteers who change lives every day.

Daybreak Adult Day Center
Daybreak Adult Day Center Blooms with New Veggies!
There’s something special growing at the Daybreak Adult Day Center—and it’s more than just vegetables! Recently, our participants rolled up their sleeves, dug into the soil, and planted a vibrant new veggie garden in our raised flower beds that they’ll nurture, watch grow, and enjoy together in the months ahead.
This joyful project brought smiles, laughter, and a wonderful sense of accomplishment to everyone involved. Gardening offers countless benefits—from sensory stimulation and relaxation to exercise and social connection—and our participants were all-in from the very first seed planted. Tomatoes, peppers, herbs, and more are now sprouting thanks to their care and teamwork.
This meaningful project came to life thanks to the support of the Lakewood Ranch Community Fund, whose generosity allowed us to purchase soil, plant starts, seeds, tools, and supplies. Their investment not only created a garden—it created an opportunity for Daybreak participants to learn, engage, and take pride in something they built together.
We are truly grateful for their partnership in enriching the Daybreak experience.
The raised garden beds have quickly become a cherished part of the Daybreak routine—one that brings purpose, joy, and connection to all who take part.
A heartfelt thank you to the Lakewood Ranch Community Fund for helping us bring this bright, hands-on activity to life. With your help, our garden—and our community—continues to grow.

From beach landscapes and flowers to abstract designs, each piece reflected personal style and imagination. This sea glass project was especially meaningful because it blended creativity with the calming, coastal charm our community loves.
