House Professional Licensure Committee Unanimously Votes "Yes" to SB 530

On March 14, 2018 the House of Representatives Professional Licensure Committee unanimously voted yes on our bill, SB 530, which provides practice protection and diagnosis rights to LCSWs in Pennsylvania. The vote brings us one step closer to passing this important piece of legislation for Pennsylvania social workers and the clients they serve!

NASW-PA would like to say THANK YOU to all who have stepped up and advocated for this bill to get it this far. Senator Tom Killion deserves a special thank you for sponsoring this bill and thus, supporting social workers in Pennsylvania. We would also like to thank House Professional Licensure Committee Chair, Representative Mark Mustio, and Democratic Chair, Representative Harry Readshaw.

Years of hard work have brought us to this point, and now, with months remaining in the legislative session, we are asking our members and friends of the profession to stand up and help us push this bill across the finish line. Click here to learn more about Senate Bill 530.
Legislative Education and Advocacy Day, One Month Away!

Legislative Education and Advocacy Day (LEAD) is an annual event hosted by NASW-PA, at which nearly 1,000 social work students and professionals gather to advocate for legislation that is relevant to the social work profession. Social Work Ethics and Advocacy: Standing at the Forefront of Change (1 CE Webinar)

Social work practitioners may struggle with section 6.04 of the Code of Ethics (Social Workers' Ethical Responsibilities to the Broader Society). Is it mandatory? How does advocating for changes in policy and politics connect with my daily practice? What if I lack the skills or knowledge to be an effective advocate? This workshop will enable social workers to better adhere to the Code's mandate for social work involvement in promoting social justice, explore barriers to advocacy and how to best overcome them, and develop tools for using existing social work skills in the legislative and/or political arenas.

When: Wednesday, March 28, 2018 | 12:00pm - 1:00pm (1 CE offered)
Presented by: Johanna Byrd, NASW-PA Executive Director
