44th annual Maple Festival
Do you love all things maple syrup? We do! Join us for our 44 th annual Maple Festival, Sunday, March 11 from 12 – 4pm to celebrate and learn about the science behind maple syrup production. Listen to the story of sugaring in Colonial North America and taste the pure sweetness of homemade maple candy. Craft stations, hands-on activities, planetarium shows, story hour, and a self-guided walk to the maple evaporator are included. Tickets are $15 for adult members, $18 for adult non-members, $12 for children members, $15 for children non-members, and free for children age 2 and under. Ancient Rome now open!
Children and adults alike will enjoy our newest exhibit, Ancient Rome: Age of the Caesars , presented by Flagstar Bank. Kids will be enamored with the hands-on activities and mighty gladiators, while parents and grandparents will admire the finely-crafted technology, historical content, and the unique opportunity to see and use functional antique Roman technology. Ancient Rome runs through July 3, 2018. Tickets are $8 for adult non-members; $7 for adult members; individuals 65+ and children 2 – 12 are $6; and enhanced members and children under 2 are free. 
Spring into Science
Join us over spring break for Spring into Science, April 2 – 6, daily from 11am – 3pm, as we celebrate the fascinating world we live in, Earth, and all the resources that help us every day. Learn about our natural world, make recycled arts and crafts, explore live insects, and more. The event is free with general museum admission.
Dig for dinosaur fossils over spring break!
In addition to our Spring into Science event, we will offer expanded hours for exploreLAB April 2 – 6. During regular museum hours, visitors can dig for real dinosaur fossils, and even clean and take real fossils home. Come enjoy the only museum-based, fossil prep lab in Michigan! Admission is $5 per program for adults and individuals 65+ and children ages 2 – 12; $4 per program for all standard members; $1 per program for children under the age of 2; and free for enhanced members.

Dreaming of summer? If the answer is yes, then register for a summer camp at the Institute of Science! Available for kindergarteners through eighth graders. Campers can make new discoveries through experiments and investigations, immerse themselves in computer aided design (CAD), science, engineering, and math, delve into rare artifacts from the Institute’s collection, and experience Detroit on field trips to locations both famous and mysterious. Young Scientists
Does your young scientist love to practice their animal moves? Then our zoology session, the last four-week program of the season, is for them! Design camouflaged creatures, walk the length of a blue whale, study life cycles, discover the diversity of the kingdom Animalia, and compare biped and quadruped gaits. The four-week session takes place March 6, 13, 20, and 27. Preschoolers (ages 4 and 5) can join us 10:00 – 10:45am or 1:30 – 2:15pm, and the session for kindergarteners to 2 nd grade runs from 4:15 – 5:00pm. Register by March 5.
