Program Spotlight-Literacy Week

Wild Plum Center Students, Families, and Teachers celebrated literacy for an entire week, but the learning doesn't stop there!

Each year, Literacy Week allows us to reiterate the importance of reading and inspires our students and families to make reading a part of their daily routines. This year included activities around some of our favorite books, guest readers, and even some visits from our local heroes. It was such a treat to be visited by Mayor Joan Peck! She and her wonderful translator, Jenny, read aloud some books that the students picked out and played some games with the kids.

Thanks to our wonderful donors, we are able to take Literacy Week outside of the classroom and into the homes of our families by providing every student in our programs with a literacy bag filled with goodies! The kids were thrilled to see some brand new books, a handcrafted bag to match their personality, a teddy bear, and resources for continued learning at home.

Service Spotlight

Primrose School in Longmont has been a key contributor to stocking our student's bookshelves year after year. Wild Plum children and staff look forward to an annual visit from Primrose students, where they share some of their favorite books that they have outgrown.

This year, Primrose donated over 1000 books to Wild Plum Center. The students visited our classrooms to read aloud and help our little plums pick out some new-to-them books.

We are so grateful for this partnership and love seeing the excitement around sharing our favorite stories with new friends.

Community Spotlight

Wild Plum Center works with parents and caregivers to access healthcare screenings and services for their children. In addition to hearing, vision, and mental health screenings, we have partnered with Salud Family Health to perform dental screenings at all of our sites.

We also provide referrals to health providers and other community resources that help our families understand and navigate the healthcare system. We want the community we serve to be healthy and happy, and strive to meet our families where they are at to get their needs met.

Thank you to Salud Family Health for your work to create a healthier community and for educating our students and families!
