Celebrating National Social Work Month at CHI

Each March we celebrate and honor social workers across the nation. The National Association of Social Workers has provided the official theme for the 2018 Social Work Month: "Social Workers: Leaders. Advocates. Champions."

At CHI, our social workers are all those things and more. They motivate, encourage and support our clients and help them move toward independence and self-sufficiency. We are proud to employ more than 50 dedicated and talented social workers who serve thousands of clients across Long Island and the Lower Hudson Valley.

We will be posting various resources, news articles, quotes and photographs on our social media pages throughout the month to celebrate our hard-working social workers. We are grateful for your work, today and everyday. Thank you for all that you do.

Charles Rutenberg Realty & Associated Mortgage Bankers Send Over 200 Homeless Children to the Movies

On Wednesday, February 21, 2018, Charles Rutenberg Realty and Associated Mortgage Bankers hosted a “Day at the Movies” for over 200 children currently living in CHI emergency and transitional housing on Long Island. The event was held at Sayville Theatres in Sayville, NY over the February school break. Children were treated to a choice of either “Peter Rabbit” or “Black Panther,” along with a complimentary beverage and popcorn.

CHI Receives Extension of State Funding to Support Foreclosure Prevention Counseling

The New York State Office of the Attorney General has extended funding for its Homeowner Protection Program (HOPP) for an additional six months, through the end of March 2019. CHI is a HOPP grantee, receiving funding through the program to operate its Foreclosure Prevention Counseling program. In November 2017, the Attorney General's Office announced it would commit an additional $20 million to support the continuation of the HOPP program.

The HOPP program funds a network of approximately 85 partners dedicated to providing homeowners with free, qualified mortgage assistance relief services across New York. CHI has been a trusted partner of HOPP since 2012.

Over 150 homeowners participated in CHI's foreclosure prevention program last year with over 40 households securing a loan modification or other remedy to remain in their homes.

Sterling National Bank Charitable Foundation Supports CHI's Homeownership Program

Sterling National Bank's CRA Officer Vladimer Ortega presented CHI Executive Director Alexander H. Roberts with a check for $7,500 to support CHI's Homeownership Counseling, Education and Grants Assistance Program on March 6, 2018.
