Why aerating and overseeding Fescue grass?

Fescue is a cool season grass and it can be aerated and overseeded in the Spring and in the Fall.

Overseeding in spring means planting new grass seed into lawn turf. This is an excellent method of closing up bare spots and enhancing turf density. By adding better quality types of grass, you can achieve a full lawn of stunningly rich deep green.

Any lawn that has a worn-down, aging, dull or sparse appearance is in need of overseeding.

If your lawn suffers from insects or diseases, please contact your chemical company. Regular feeding of your lawn will help it look great by encouraging the grass to become thicker and greener as well as healthier. This means there is less chance of weeds and moss being able to take over as it will be harder for weeds and moss to get through thick healthy grass.

Warm season grasses, what to know:

Warm season grasses like Zoysia, Bermuda, Centipede and St Augustine, are now starting to come out of dormancy. The yellow grass is slowly turning green again.

First mow of the season: the first time we mow your warm season, we will mow a bit short, but we will not "scalp" your lawn. This low mow will cut off the brown winter grass blades and open up the soil to the warm spring sunlight.

Why do you leave clippings on my lawn?

Unless requested otherwise, we may sometime see clippings on your lawn. Mowing / mulching the grass and leaving the clippings on the grass as you mow is another small thing that can make a big difference for your lawn: “Grasscycling,” as it’s called, can reduce your fertilizer use by up to 25% each year. Grass clippings turn into a natural fertilizer as they contain water and nutrients (especially nitrogen), that your lawn needs to stay healthy.

Word to the wise: There are a few cases when you’ll want to bag your clippings.

✗ You have fungus in the lawn (Don’t compost).

✗ Leaves cover more than 50% of the lawn’s surface (Compost, and mow more often going

forward. Mulched leaves are a rich source of nutrients for your lawn.).

✗ The lawn is exceptionally tall (Compost).

PROJECTS WE DID IN FEBRUARY

Feburary was a short month but we still got a lot done.

  • We installed a modern style fence. We removed an old outdoor storage area and installed a new concrete parking pad to extend a driveway. We added a drain to help with water drainage. The fence will be stained in the next couple weeks, once we have a dryer weather. The fence looks really cool, check out the pictures!
  • Cool fact: Our wood supplier The Cofer Brothers in Tucker gave us a shout out on their Instagram and Facebook pages (see picture attached). It's a great compliment when your suppliers like your work.

  • We installed a 19' x 24' paver patio with drainage, added steps and railing. This new patio was created to give this family an outdoor space to dine, hang out and enjoy. They love their new backyard!

  • On a front yard redo, we installed a picture frame privacy fence. We installed a raised beds, a circle paver patio and pathways, following the homeowner's design requests. This project is still in progress, so the final pictures will be in our next newsletter. I attached 2 "during" pictures of the raised beds and circle patio.
  • We will work on a backyard redo at the end of May.

  • We worked on our "showrooms" (or outdoor display areas to be exact). It is also in progress but it already gives you great inspiration for your next hardscaping project. If you are looking for a patio, a retaining wall, raised bed, You will find a variety of styles, shapes, texture, sizes and design features. Each textures and styles offer specific looks that can pair well together or can be mixed and matched for a unique design. Come see for yourself the different stone options. It will give you a great idea of what the final product will look like. Stop by anytime, it is located at the end of our driveway, on the right of our building.

  • We layed a lot of mulch and long needle pine straw.

  • This month, we sponsored the Camp Creek Elementary School silent auction, and donated 10 bails of long needle pine straw delivered (a $75 value). Click HERE to check what else we do to support our community.

  • This month, we are starting on a front porch redo, a RipRap installation, a hardscaping and screen porch project, and several other landscaping projects with plants.
  • Check our next newsletter for pictures and details.
