Why aerating and overseeding Fescue grass?
Fescue is a cool season grass and it can be aerated and overseeded in the Spring and in the Fall.
Overseeding in spring means planting new grass seed into lawn turf. This is an excellent method of closing up bare spots and enhancing turf density. By adding better quality types of grass, you can achieve a full lawn of stunningly rich deep green.
Any lawn that has a worn-down, aging, dull or sparse appearance is in need of overseeding.
If your lawn suffers from insects or diseases, please contact your chemical company. Regular feeding of your lawn will help it look great by encouraging the grass to become thicker and greener as well as healthier. This means there is less chance of weeds and moss being able to take over as it will be harder for weeds and moss to get through thick healthy grass.
Warm season grasses, what to know:
Warm season grasses like Zoysia, Bermuda, Centipede and St Augustine, are now starting to come out of dormancy. The yellow grass is slowly turning green again.
First mow of the season: the first time we mow your warm season, we will mow a bit short, but we will not "scalp" your lawn. This low mow will cut off the brown winter grass blades and open up the soil to the warm spring sunlight.
Why do you leave clippings on my lawn?
Unless requested otherwise, we may sometime see clippings on your lawn. Mowing / mulching the grass and leaving the clippings on the grass as you mow is another small thing that can make a big difference for your lawn: “Grasscycling,” as it’s called, can reduce your fertilizer use by up to 25% each year. Grass clippings turn into a natural fertilizer as they contain water and nutrients (especially nitrogen), that your lawn needs to stay healthy.
Word to the wise: There are a few cases when you’ll want to bag your clippings.
✗ You have fungus in the lawn (Don’t compost).
✗ Leaves cover more than 50% of the lawn’s surface (Compost, and mow more often going
forward. Mulched leaves are a rich source of nutrients for your lawn.).
✗ The lawn is exceptionally tall (Compost).
