We would like to introduce you to our Scrub Technician Julee Deluce
She graduated Community College in 1990, where she received her Surgical Technician certification. She worked at St Francis Hospital for several years before she decided to leave the workforce and start a family.
She started back to work at Laurel Surgical Center where she stayed for 13 years. Aestique was fortunate enough to have her join our team in the Fall in 2018.
When Julee is outside of the office, she enjoys spending time with her husband of 28 years and her four children. Faith and family are the center of her universe.

ASCs = Efficient Quality Care + Convenience + Patient Satisfaction
Ambulatory Surgery Centers (ASCs) like Aestique Ambulatory Surgical Center are growing in popularity. According to recent surveys from ASCA which parallel what our own patients say, patients have a 92% satisfaction rate with both the care and service they receive from ASCs. Safe and high quality of service, ease of scheduling, greater personal attention and lower costs are among the main reasons cited for the growth.
Physician ownership helps reduce frustrating wait-times for patients and allows for maximum specialization and patient-doctor interaction. Unlike large-scale institutions, ASCs:
- Provide responsive, non-bureaucratic environments that allow us to tailor to each individual patient's needs.
- Exercise better control over scheduling, so virtually no procedures are delayed or rescheduled due to the kinds of institutional demands that often occur in hospitals (unforeseen emergency room demands)
- Intensify quality control processes since ASCs are focused on a smaller space and small number of operating rooms
- Allow patients to bring concerns directly to the physician who has direct knowledge about each patient's case rather than deal with hospital administrators who almost never have detailed knowledge about individual patients or their experiences

March is Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month
|
|
Colorectal cancer is a cancer that starts in the rectum or colon. Both of these organs are in the lower portion of your
digestive system
. The
American Cancer Society
estimates 1 in 22 men and 1 in 24 women will develop colorectal cancer during their lifetime.
Who’s at risk for colorectal cancer?
There are some factors that may increase your risk of developing colorectal cancer:
Unavoidable factors
Some factors that increase your risk of developing colorectal cancer are unavoidable and can’t be changed. Age is one of them. Your chances of developing this cancer increase after you reach the age of 50.
Some other unavoidable risk factors are:
- a prior history of colon polyps
- a prior history of bowel diseases
- a family history of colorectal cancer
- having a genetic syndrome, such as familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP)
- being of Eastern European Jewish or African descent
Avoidable factors
Other risk factors are avoidable. This means you can change them to decrease your risk of developing colorectal cancer. Avoidable risk factors include:
- being overweight or obese
- smoking
- heavy drinking of alcohol
- having type 2 diabetes
- having a sedentary lifestyle
- consuming a diet high in processed foods or red meats
How is colorectal cancer diagnosed?
Screening is the number one way you can reduce your risk of colon cancer and rectal cancer. Despite its high incidence, colorectal cancer is unique in that it is one of the most preventable and, if found early, most treatable forms of cancer. And the best part is, a screening colonoscopy is easy!
A colonoscopy involves the use of a long tube with a small, attached camera. This procedure allows your doctor to see inside your colon and rectum to check for anything unusual.
During a colonoscopy, your doctor can also remove tissue from abnormal areas. These tissue samples can then be sent to a laboratory for analysis.
If you’re over 50, high risk or symptomatic, don’t put it off. Talk to your doctor about getting checked! You can schedule for your colonoscopy by calling Aestique's Clinical Scheduler at
724-832-3085 and she can assist you.
